    I'm a Worrier (gradyupmybutt) - Pupdate

Grady is limping.  Yesterday he was a super snuggle bug & I just thought he was trying to make me feel better.  I had a bit too much fun the night before.  This morning I noticed he was limping & favoring his left front paw.  I am worried about my boy.  I gave him one of his favoritest things (the tube from paper towels) & he just poopooed it.  Something is not right with him.  I gave him an enteric aspirin to see if that helps any.  If he's not better by tomorrow, it's off to Dr. P's.

I'm a worrier too, so I know how you feel. My older girl, Buffy, limps off and on and I'm fairly certain it's arthritis, but I still worry about it. At 12+, I try not to let myself get too worked up and usually a day or so of baby aspirin, will help. Is "enteric" the coated aspirin? If so, I use that too, but someone said that because stuff passes thru a dog so fast, you shouldn't use the coated kind. Beats me, but I hope Grady is feeling better real soon.

Sorry I don't know his age or specifics....  if you could share I may have a bit of insight. Age, breed(s) weight, feed.... I have been a breeder of Rhodesian Ridgebacks for over 25 years.  Let me know if  I can try to assist.

Bonita, I'm not totally sure what Grady is nor his age (he's a rescue from Arkansas).  I'm calling him a hound/lab.  He's 60# & approximately 4-5 y/o.  I'm currently feeding him Pinnacle Trout with an occasional Flax seed tablet.  I also put about a tablespoon of plain yogurt on his food @ dinner.  I'm thinking he hurt is paw running on some ice & that time & some extra TLC will help it.  I just hate seeing my boy not right.  If you have ANY ideas, I'm open to your thoughts.

Canka, When my heart girl got really achy from Sir Arthur, I gave her Bromaline.  It's a digestive enzyme  if given with food.  When given on an empty stomach is a great anti-inflammatory.  It made a HUGE difference for her.  I use it too.  You can get it @ a health food store.

Thanks everyone for your good thoughts.

Did you check to make sure there is nothing visible (a cut or scrape from the ice)?  Is it sensitive to touch, ie if you feel the paw all over?  If not, I would just take it easy for another day or two and see if it gets better (assuming it is not causing real pain and it is not getting worse) and then, if it is not improving, off to the vet...  Sending good vibes and hopes that is is just a little strain or pull that will heal right up in no time!!

Oh I hope he's just a bit sore and its nothing major. Those are the times when I wish they could talk to us....if only for a couple of moments to tell us whats wrong

I've felt his paw & he flinches when I get to the outer part of his left paw kinda of where your pinkie would be just around where the meaty part would be.  I hope that makes sense.  I can't see any abrasions or cuts.  I need to wait for DH to get home for a better look.  He's very squirmy with his paws.

Grady IS talking.  He's just not telling me all that I need to know.  He's clearly not feeling well.  He's finally sleeping on the bed.  He's mad @ me because I'm folding laundry & there's hardly any room on the bed for him.  Poor guy.

Megan, all the boys love those cookies you sent.  If you ever want to do another trade, I'm ready. :o)  I'm sure Grady would love to romp on the beach with Pirate.  Heck, I'd love it too.

I completely commiserate with you, Annie.  AND LOTS love to the Grady boy!  Maybe he just stepped funny?  I dunno, but I sure do have my fingers and the kids have their paws crossed that Grady is better than new soon.

Big lovings and chickens for him and a big hug to you Annie.

he's sore when you manipulate the outermost toe?  it's not uncommon for dogs to sprain that toe.

Here's hoping things get better quick.  Both of my dogs occasionally hurt thier paws on the ice and limp for a day or two.  Maybe its because they are used to it, but it barely slows them down, they just limp.  Thats what worries me, that Grady seems poorly otherwise.   Hopefully he just has a lower pain threshold than my beasts.  Get better soon Grady!
