    Kitty Crunchy addiction, yuck

Cheza has developed a kitty crunchy addiction. So gross! I can't seem to keep her away from it. She just loves the stuff. Ick!

I never had this problem with Salem. He wanted the cat food, but not what was in the box. For him I just put up a baby gate so the cats could come under the gate but Salem couldn't get into their room to eat the cat food. Cheza climbs right over the gates! She can even climb over 2 gates stacked on top of each other.

I'm afraid she is going to give herself an obstruction or something from the litter. Not to mention her breath smells horrible. She is teething so it is bad to begin with and then she eats poop!

I don't know what to do about it. She knows she isn't supposed to go in that room. If I catch her in there she comes right back over the gate. I try to make sure she is in my sight constantly, but when I'm cooking cleaning etc. it's not always possible. She is sneaky about it. She learned that I could hear her landing on the floor if she jumped off the top of the gate, so now she scales the gate and then climbs down the other side so it doesn't make noise!

I think I'm going to buy some bells to hang on the baby gate!

    Kitty Crunchy Rant Over. Ick!

Oh man!  I hear ya.  All 3 of the boys are scooby snack addicts.  Bubba's food & litter are secured under the basement steps by a shelf & a baby gate.  I have to block off the bottom of the shelves so that Snickers won't go in & sneak a snack. It's so totally disgusting.

Wow, she is SMART in her quest, too!!!!!

We always put the box in an inaccessible dog spot, but if that is not possible, make a BOX for the box, with the opening facing a wall.  The box is heavy wood (Like a furniture end table almost)....too heavy for her to move, with a hinged door so you have access to clean the litter box, and the door for kitty accessis small enough for the cats but not big enuf for dog.  Then, you can do away with the gates....woohooo!!!!

Aww, I feel for you.  Honor's fetish is rabbit poop.  My two rabbits live in an x-pen, and no matter how quick I am to vacuum, they always kick some out.  And she LOVES it.  Ick! I wish I could find a way to create a plastic guard around the bottom to keep their debris IN the x-pen.  I hope you find a good solution!  I like fitzfids idea.

I'm going to second this.  When I was living with my ex, Joey would get into PK's box and gobble away.  We turned her covered box to face a corner and presto, no more kitty crunchies!

I have this problem too, but we've had to handle it strictly with training and by keeping it scooped all the time, because my senior cat will stop using the box if anything about it changes. She won't even go through a door flap. It has to be a plain plastic box with tidy cats litter, domed cover, but no flap, and no track mat. I'm totally serious.

We have the litter robot box which I love, but there really isn't much I can put around it, and I think it may upset the cats if I did. The smallest upset and they will go on the floor next to the box. Cheza only has like a 3 minute span of time from when the cat goes before the box self cleans. She just waits for the cat to come out and then she is right in there. Ick!

I hung some bells on the gate last night which seemed to work. The bells would start ringing, she would hear me coming and run out of there before I got to her, lol.
