    Carnivores (alieliza)

I've just gotten my newest interest in the mail... Carnivorous plants!

I ordered from California Carnivores a Cape Sundew and a Venus Fly Trap.

The sundew is gorgeous with its delicate leaves and dewey red lashes and will become even more so as it begins to grow (both plants are quite small as they are young, and the VFT is dormant for the winter.) You can see some new growth on the sundew, I am so excited!!!

I am thrilled to have them and just hope that I have success with these fairly finnicky plants!

    Is anyone else smitten?

SO cool!  I can't wait to see their progress, will you keep us updated with pics as they grow?

    • Gold Top Dog
    Of course!! (If Im successful!)
    • Gold Top Dog

Neato.  I had a fly trap once but man that thing was picky!  It wanted to be soaking, but then it would start to drown.

    • Gold Top Dog
Yes, I know, soaking in very specific water, nonetheless! The sundew is a little less picky, so Im hoping Ill at least have luck with one!

    Me too, and me too!

ETA: What do you all have in your collections??

    • Gold Top Dog

    Currently:

I vase of bamboo, 3 pots of Mother in Law tongues, I spider plant in desperate need of fresh soil and a new pot.

I am also nursing another pot of tongue and 2 pots of croton's from near death expierences.

I have 1 rubber tree, 6 peace plants. 2 crotons and 2 mini roses at my office, the Bosses don't seem to mind that I have slowly been filing space there with house plants from home. Either that or they don't notice!

Do you have to feed those plants bugs to keep them alive? Surprise

    • Gold Top Dog
Well, if there were bugs in my house, I wouldn't have to, as they attract them with sweet nectar, but, since there aren't a plethora of bugs, yes, I may have to, but they only need a couple a month, from what I understand.

Benedict suggested I keep them near an open window and I should be golden.

    • Gold Top Dog

I envy you that many plants at home. I have very limited light/window space here in the house, I have 1 window that faces north and one that faces south. I have 3 on the west side and none on the east.

Now work, I have TONS of space, I have 3 plants on my desk (huge L shape) 3 plants on the floor in the corner by my desk, 1 in the lobby, 1 in the conference room,  2 are in offices , and one on the other side of the office near the back door.

Hmm, now you have me plotting work for my husband to make me space!

    • Gold Top Dog

That's pretty spiffy, I hope they work well for you :) as a kid I always loved the venus fly traps at the botanical garden my mother dragged me to!

    • Gold Top Dog
Well, I have limited space as well, I've just crammed everything into the limited space I have....

Let me share some photos.... please! (I love sharing photos!!)

    Haworthia

Most of my cactus are this size... I started them from seed about 8 months ago... they're slow growers

    The unidentified succulent:

    The ZZ plant:

A small succulent garden (donkey tail, aloe or haworthia, Im not sure, and finger jade)

Ok, not a houseplant, but petunias because I love this photo:

Baby spiders and pothos cuttings rooting in water:

    Phalaenopsis

    • Gold Top Dog

Yep, I kept my pitcher plant by a window and it lived happily on whatever came in there. :)

    I love the phalaenopsis. :D
