You really need 3 ideally. One for you and spouse...one for kids...and one for "number two' in the back of the house or basement...where the funk won't matter....you won't even need to light a candle!

LOL Gina. You're so right though. We don't have kids but having our own separate bathroom was a must. As you might guess, mine is the one that's also used as the guest bathroom.

That solarium is to die for!!!

Currently, my only source of real estate pleasure is craigslist.... so if anyone *ahem, Cathy* can point me in the direction of northern/central coastal California real estate websites (SF Bay area and Berkeley preferably, but Im not discounting other areas, as Im really not familiar with California at all) please feel free!

Our favorite house hunting website is ZipRealty.com. You have to create a username/password, but no one ever contacted us or anything. You can search the MLS of the whole country and i find this website has the most pictures and info (like hoa fees).

My dream home is on a lake, with forests surrounding and me working from home (wirting or something).  Not too remote but definitely quiet.  Here's my idea of paradise:

This is the link for the San Francisco Chronicles RE listings. You'll get a lot more listings and better details (pictures, virtual tours, etc.) than you would thru Craigslist. FYI - Berkeley is in Alameda County.

Gorgeous house, but there's no way that amount of money would get you a house like that in CA since the median price of anything bigger than a condo is now well over 1/2 a  million. I'm in the middle of a re-fi and my own house just appraised for $625,000 and we're talking 3 bd/2 ba. tract house - nice, but nothing spectacular. I have to say though, that those bathrooms amaze me.  Let's see - separate tub and shower, two sinks, two toilets.  Is that so everyone in the family can be in there at the same time? Big Smile Because if there's one place I don't want company, it's the bathroom.

Joyce, which house are you referring to?

The one Gina posted a link to at the beginning of this thread. Smile The idea of getting over 6,000 sq. ft. for $795,000 fair boggles the mind since anyplace in CA that house would  be a minimum of $2,000,000.00

How did I know that's the house your link went to?  I always marvel at it whenever I drive by.  Seems out-of-place in that neighborhood though, as in the style is so different than the others.  But it's neat to be able to see inside it, thanks for the link!

Oh Alieliza, I do love your taste in homes!

If I had my way, this is the type of house I would have.  Totally drool over the old neighborhoods here in Fort Worth.

Hope that link works.  The yard needs some love but the inside of the house is just the kind of stuff I look for.  These old homes just seem more 'nesty' to me.  Not so sterile and cookie-cutter and McMansion like new ones.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about all the different cities but I can tell you that some are very nice and some you probably wouldn't want to even consider.  Oakland is a good example. There are parts of it that are very industrial or have a high crime rate and then there are other parts that are really beautiful.  Cassidysmom (sp?) lives in the bay area though and I'd bet she might be able to help steer you in the right direction.

OK, am I the only one here who would rather live where I am now than in ANY of these dream homes? They are all gorgeeeeouss, but I would rather have my family around me in a relatively cozy home than spread all out over 6000 sq ft! I am perfectly happy in what i have now.  I looove my house...all 2000 sq ft of 1902 home (warts and all!).
