    HELP! Laundry Disaster!

WHY did I ask DH to do a load of washing this weekend?   I have been folding it and the "whites" are now blue!  I've never had colours run thos badly and one of Will's nicest outfits is now ruined.  Is there ANY product that might reverse this hideous effect if only a little??

Have you tried simply running them thru alone again?

Plain ol' bleach, if it's supposed to be white, right?

Yes that'd work if there are NO other colors on it. I forget is is COLD or HOT that sets in stains?

I'd try a reg detergeant washing in whatever is supposed to remove stains...what about shaving cream in the wash? that works for pretreating I think.

I've been taught that hot sets in stains, so best to wash on cold I think.

I've been taught the same, altho using cold water to wash helps prevent fading. Drying the clothes after they've taken up the dye also helps set it. Personally, I'd use bleach on all the clothes that should be white and for any that aren't supposed to be white, I'd run them thru with just a small amount (1/2 cup?) of bleach. Sometimes if the clothes are otherwise ruined, using the bleach can't do much further harm.

I guess that might not work since you say the clothes have a blue tinge to them but it's what I use when my clothes are a little off-color.

Not yet - would that work??  They were an a wash-dry cycle so I didn't think it would help... might be worth a try tho I suppose... thx.

Can you get Rit products over there?  There's something called Rit Dye Powder Color Remover that will either remove bled colors or prep clothes for dying.  A quick google search found a handful of forum posts that claim it worked...  Good luck!

DH did the same thing with Riley's new pink sweater and the jean load (sweater had a weird blue ting to it).  I rewashed her sweater with color safe bleach, since it was pink, and it came out fine.  I would rewash with regular detergent in cold, don't dry and if it still hasn't come out, then use bleach.  You may want to soak them in the bleach water for about 20 minutes (gets whites really brite) before running the rest of the cycle.

    Good Luck!

I think I can get the Rit stuff.  I will try running it thru cold, if that doesn't work I will try bleach (colour safe as the t-shirt isn't totally white).  If that doesn't work I'll get the Rit and try that.  Thanks for the tips everyone, you have given me some hope!  And if the shirt cannot be saved, well it won't be for want of trying.  And then I will keep it, as it was one of my favourites out of all his outfits and it will be a reminder as to why *I* do the washing in this house....

I was gutted when I noticed what had happened... my mum would have been too, she bought him the outfit.  He was a little stunner in it and it still (just!) fits him... here it is... the white background is now blue!

Well, little William is still just as cute as can be regardless of his slightly off-colored clothers, which, from those pics, I can't even tell.  I think his cute wittle self just make you ignore clothes.

Umm, no, they are OLD pics, before the disaster.  The top looks TOTALLY different now!

     Oxy-clean may help!
