V8 'Fusion'? I thought it was HORRIBLE, and so did my garbage-disposal of a brother.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but don't forget to consider your calorie intake per day too.  If you aren't eating enough the weight won't come off either.

I'm going back to my daily journal so I can count them.  My target is 1200 per day.  If I don't meet it, I have an extra granola bar or plop of cottage cheese after I work out.

I never knew that cooked tomatoes are healthier!  That's good news since I really do not like them raw.  I think I will try the V8 stuff.  I do like things salty.  What are the consequences of high sodium?

Retaining water weight, which causes bloating.

One thing I recently read, I think it was in Prevention magazine. . .it's good to get something in you before your workouts too, like yogurt or I like eating those Luna bars.  It did help me to burn more efficiently.

How soon do you workout after eating it?  Usually I come home and eat dinner right away (after feeding the dogs of course), then work out an hour to an hour and a half later.  I don't really like yogurt, but I'm going to try it again.  We got about 2 dozen yogurt cups so there better be one that I like!

I don't like ANY of the low-fat no-sugar kind of yogurts, but I really hate the taste of artificial sweetener. I like most of the organic brands :)

IMHO, the only way to bust a plateau is the radically change your workout.  It's not about duration, it's about quality.  You can get a bang up workout in 20 minutes if you up the ante.

If you're hung up on the elliptical, try cycling BACKWARD for 45 minutes, or try a cross training program where you vary the resistance dramatically. Try lifting the heaviest weights you possibly can for 3 reps and 3 sets.  Max out.  If you can do more than 3 reps, they're not heavy enough.  Lifting heavy weights dramatically increases your metabolism, especially for about 2 hours after your workout.

Yogurt, skim milk, and other low fat dairy products have been linked to increased weight loss...

    And you GO girl!!

Drink a can of V8 veg. juice a day and you'll have a full serving. That's what my doctor recommended. I personally think it taste nasty unless it's extremely cold with ice cubes.

Does it taste like tomato soup?  If so, maybe I will try.  I like tomato soup....

They are these tiny little cans which are equal to seven servings of veggies. (the bigger ones, the size of a coke, deff have more sodium)

It takes a lot like carrots actually... carrots/tomatos... like everything mixed into one??? haha which is why i like it REALLY cold... try it out! :o) They say its celery, carrots, tomato0o0o0os... you name it they mixed it together! haha

High Sodium actually isn't that bad IF... you are exercising. For instance, when I lived in Florida my doctor used to tell my Mother I wasn't getting enough sodium (down south you sweat a lot, and I was very active and playing sports). Now living up here I needed to reduce my salt intake b/c I was less active which can result to major headaches, and high cholesterol.

One can a day (the little ones) of the V8 will do more good than bad. But of course like with any new intake just keep track and see how your body reacts to it :o)

Also... (my father's girlfriend is a personal trainer) and she said high consumptions of fruit is actually bad. Fruit contains natural sugars, and like with any sugar too much can be negative.

I actually heard this back in high school too from my soccer coach.

So when you hear people say "just snack on fruit all day" well your snacking on natural sugars all day and TOO much can actually be bad. Grapes are the big no no I guess (packed with the most sugars).

I'm not saying don't eat fruit, fruits awesome! :o) But don't substitute fruit for other things (veggies, carbs, etc).

And ALSO 15mins after you work out have a protein shake or something with high protein. After you work out is when your body is working at its hardest.

good luck (again) and keep us all posted! I hope you get the results you are looking for. If you hit any dead ends always feel free to ask me questions and I'll just relay them to my dad's gf haha

I think I'll try more strength training.  Typically I run forwards for 45 mins and I've been increasing my speed.  I'm a lot faster now than when I started.  Then I go backwards for 5 minutes.  Going backwards forces my arms to pull/push, since I increase the intensity from 3 to 13 (I can't even get it to move forward at 13!).  I used to break it into periods of going backwards and forwards, but going backwards started giving me knee pain so I just do it for a few minutes to really work my @$$ (literally!).

This plateau thing sucks!  I suspect it's mostly because I wasn't overweight to begin with.  I made a lot of changes all at once, namely quitting soda cold turkey.  I was really shocked to lose 3 years of weight in one month.  Perhaps my body was shocked too.  Oh well, as long as I'm not gaining, I know I'm doing WAY better than before (rarely exercised, didn't watch what I ate, drank 3-4 sodas a day...).

Maybe I just need to post a pic so you all can make some fat jokes to keep me going.  DH keeps telling me that I "look fine" but I had to tell him to seriously stop.  For some reason, I do much better when I'm being criticized than when I'm being encouraged, probably from doing gymnastics (if you're not even getting criticized by a coach then you are REALLY worthless!!).

Me too and I like regular V8 juice. That stuff tasted like fruit juice with a hint of tomato juice - blech!

As someone said way high up here -- if you don't like veggies it's likely because they aren't prepared for YOU.  I was reared in a home where "veggies" were -- corn and peas ... and ... peas ... and ... corn ... and oh, yeah peas&corn ... and baked potato (that my mother mashed flat on a plate so it was cold and congealed and had too much margerine on it UGH)

I'm not big on raw veggies either -- but I discovered I can REALLY like cucumber and carrot with HUMMUS on it.  I mean ranch is nice but it does defeat the purpose.

Greek salad does it for me way way  way more than anything else.  I'm not into sweet salad dressings -- and if you get a "Village Salad" it doesn't even have lettuce IN it.  But at least it has some flavor!!  feta has almost no fat in it and a little goes a long way.

I hate broccoli the way my mother fixed it (she cooks everything to death) and I've discovered I really do like it steamed and PUHLEESE don't make me eat the 'trunks' ok??

You might want to try to make your own veggie soup.  With a crockpot Lies, truly it's not hard to make and you can freeze it in portions and have easy to take stuff for work or dinner.

I'm no great cook -- but I CAN toss stuff into the crockpot (particularly if I can open bags of frozen stuff or veggies that are already prepared and julienned and just toss it in -- and not mess with it a lot).

No fruits do not "equal" veggies.  They are different.  But you don't need to obsess about it either.

DH and I both love broccoli more than most other veggies. I just read that one cup of cooked broccoli has 205% of the daily requirement for Vit C and over 100% of the Vit A requirement. I like it with either wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar on it.  I don't like the stalks either, but the dogs sure do Big Smile

How do you prepare it?  I've heard that boiling takes away the nutritional value, and I don't have a steamer.  I actually like the stalks better than the "trees", but like all veggies, I only like it mushy.
