My upstairs neighbors... I might kill them. (aDork)

My upstairs neighbors... I might kill them. (aDork)

Last night I woke up at some point in time, and then got to stay up for over an hour, because the people upstairs were being the loudest, most obnoxious people in the world. I finally got out of bed at 3:30 am. I like to consider myself a reasonable person... but it was 3:30 am on Sunday. They were falling on the floor, giggling, loudly playing their television, and quite possibly moving furniture. They know they're loud, we've asked them nicely several times, and complained about them to both the CA and the RA (who told us it was "the pipes";). I don't sleep well to begin with, and it took me two hours to get back to sleep.

I think I could handle it if it only happened on occasion, but every night from 11 until 1 (this is during the week) they are so loud. I have class, I have to get up, so I need sleep. And they can be quieter, they were quieter once for two weeks. I'm not even asking for full-time quiet. I just want them to shut up from... 11 pm to 9 am. So that maybe I stand a chance of getting some sleep. And I'm on the line of going insane from this.

In college I was deff a wild child. Thurs - Sun was party night. The only difference is we would always go to the dorm/apt/house that we knew would be noise tolerant. Being a person who has a hard time sleeping I was always considerate of this fact that other people could be the same way. I always made friends with everyone on my hall to let them know they can always come to my room and tell me to be quiet if I'm too loud. It's important to have people respect you first before you make a mistake.

I have been in this situation many times in my apartment in Worcester and also my apartment here in Framingham. I've woken up and walked upstairs and have told people to be quiet or I would be calling either management or the police. You really need to be firm and know your rights. 3:30am parties & noise is not acceptable...

also it's important to befriend neighbors too because of situations like this. FRIENDS are more likely to listen than STRANGERS.

My mom lives in an apartment complex.  Her neighbors are so loud at night.  When she worked 1st and 2nd shift, they drove her nuts while she was trying to sleep.  They would turn the t.v. way up and they would wash their clothes at like 2 in the morning.  During the day, you can't even tell they're home because they are so quiet.  She's on 3rd shift now.  She said that she is moving out in September, when her lease is up.  Good luck with your neighbors.  Maybe they will settle down enough for you to sleep.

Find out when THEY sleep. Learn the Ubangi stomp and dance VERY loudly to polka music. Bring your friends over to practice their French horns. Have a square dance party.  Become more vocal during the "horizontal boogie". You get the idea!

Seriously,  ask them nicely ONCE.  After that, call someone to take care of it.  That's why apartment complexes have managers.  if not, check with your local law enforcement.  Most towns have noise ordinances.

When I lived in college dorms, I slept on the bottom bunk, wrapped it in blankets so I had darkness regardless of the time of day or who was awake, and put a fan right next to my head to block out any noise.  Our room was the first one, so our wall was against the stairwell.  The stairwell is where everyone goes to fight, gossip, weep to themselves, call their boyfriends for 5 hours...lol, I swear every night we had to yell out the door "we can HEAR what you are saying!!"  When I moved into a house, if someone was loud we just pounded on the wall and yelled to "shut the f up!"  Oh, and I bought a BIGGER, LOUDER fan.

Yeah.. Liesje, my bed is also right next to the stairwell, where they conveniently just placed a new access door. So I get to hear *boop boop boop - KLANG* at all hours, it's real cute. We yell at them, too. The next door neighbors will quiet down, the people upstairs will stomp at us. If I bought a fan, I'd freeze to death in the summer (yay! boiler system) and the winter because we already have the overhead fan on. But... it might be worth a try.

Anyone else who has suggested calling the cops, I live in a dorm on campus, so I don't think that'd be the best idea. But my roommate and I are going to talk to someone about this tomorrow.

ETA: New quiet hour enforcement. A warning, then 24 hours. (Basically, it's like getting turned into the Honor Board cops.)

Wow, you're good...very loud Polka music lol.  Forget about the dancing, the music should drive them nuts!  What is that Russian music where they fold there arms in and kick the legs out, that should work well.

If they aren't Hispanic, go to the local Mexican tienda and buy Norteña music!  Lots of accordions and trumpets, plus lots of "crying" in the voices--guaranteed to drive anyone who doesn't like it batso!!!

ewww, sounds like a great tactic.  I don't think aDorkable has that fighting spirit though to properly deal with the situation.  I think I have enough music in my arsenal to put up a good battle.  I may catch them in the hallway and mention, hey, how do you feel about JETHRO TULL?  If they say I've heard of him, could just be the perfect candidate.  I'll start maybe with "A Passion Play", then proceed to work them through 4 decades worth of music.

How about OPERA? Gregorian chants? A 254 hours of country marathon (I couldn't take 254 hours of ANYTHING but quiet!)? The best of Frankie Yankovic? Invite a bunch over for a Lawrence Welk party?  Liberace anyone? Slam dancing at 3 a.m.?

Are we giving you any good ideas?

BTW, Jethro Tull would be PRICELESS for this.  Maybe Ozzy Osbourne too!

They are Hispanic, so I get to hear that from their room flowing down into mine. My other neighbor's Hispanic too, but her TV's not on very often.

Last year I cranked up some Rammstein (German Industrial music) and left my room, because other people were playing bad music really loudly. I mean... I could go borrow that DVD from my German professor, and just blast that from my TV...

Sorry you have to deal with that. It's the worst.

In college the girls who had the apartment above ours were so loud all the time. They were like freaking elephants pounding around, and would play music really loud at 9 am - which in college is when EVERYONE was asleep. Finally, one morning, I stood on my bed, pounded the ceiling and screamed "shut the eff up you fat *** **insert word for female dogs**. I hit the ceiling hard enough that the cd they were playing skipped and their loud behavior went with it.

I am not an angry person, but messing with my sleep is just not a good idea. I turn into Captain Cranky Pants.

I get a good laugh at of this stuff for some reason.  A little morning Pavarotti anyone for that fresh start to the day!  I'll have them packing their bags in a week....lol.   Speaking of Ozzy, I saw him in concert once!  The warm up band was none other than Van Halen working off their very first album and the main course was.....BLACK SABBATH.  That would be 1978 in case you were wondering.
