As well as being sick he has quite a bad chesty cough, a VERY runny nose, conjunctivitis, diarrhoea, you name it. I hadn't even got to the bus stop this morning after dropping him off to nursery and I got the call to say I had to come and pick him up again. The staff had gone to change his nappy and he was basically covered in it from his bum to his shoulders. Then he started being sick and couldn't stop. So we went straight to the doctors from there as it was open surgery.
The doctor confirmed that Will didn't have a blocked tear duct. He listened to his chest and said he sounded very rattly. He said he had an infection and prescribed antibiotics for it and also drops for his eye because the last lot didn't clear it up.
We went round to the chemist and picked up his prescriptions before we went home so he could start the course straight away. I stocked up on calpol and teething gel while I was there and got a syringe because I was struggling to get him to take the medicine off the spoon (he doesn't want to eat or drink ANYTHING, when something comes towards his mouth he screws his face up and waggles his head). When we got home he had fallen asleep in the pushchair so I let him snooze. When he woke I laid out all his medicines on a tray with a dish of boiled water and some cotton wool for his eyes and nose. He was such a little soldier, I cleaned him up (he was caked in snot from his eyes and nose, bleurgh) and gave him his drops and gave him his medicines... he sat there with the muslin tucked round his neck, tilted his head back and drank all the doses down. Then we had a looooong cuddle and I ran him a nice warm bath so he could get clean after his Puka-a-thon this morning... he even managed to have a little bit of lunch and watered down juice and IT STAYED DOWN (hooray!) and then he slept for about 3hrs!
He wasn't as good about taking the medicine tonight before he went to bed, but once it was done he leaned against me and his eyes just started shutting... which is a mark of how bad he feels because he prefers to lay in his cot and squirm around and chat to himself for a bit to go to sleep. I couldn't get him to drink his milk or put him in his sleeping bag or anything, he was just too tired and I think the medicine makes him drowsy too. So now he is in bed and sleeping really deeply, which is good news because the last couple of nights he has been very restless. I'm taking that as a sign the medicine is working....
Thanks to everyone for thinking of him and wishing him well. And thank you for all the lovely compliments
