    Canine Abuse

I mean that to sound like "spouse abuse".... as in them hurting US.

Since Logan has come home with me, he's left  me black and blue.  I love the nut to pieces but having a big dog is so different, they aren't used to their size (as they grow) and their strength.

He's 7 months old and so far I've had

    • 2 bloody lips.
    • Very nearly a broken nose, it was stuffed up and sore for awhile.
    • Black and blue eye.
    • HUG bruise across my shin (KPWLEE, like you he slid on black ice after jumping on the deck, right into me.  I was fairly certain one of had been seriously hurt, dork that he is, was fine... and my bruise faded a week later! :)
    • Countless scratches, he likes to paw at you, little dork.
    • My pointer finger nail on my left hand is still purple with a dent in the middle from him being a bit too excited about a treat.

So, he's getting better about most of this... it still shocks me, since I don't think Nik ever left so much as a scratch on me!

How about you? Where's your canine abuse list?

Poor Logan is still working on the depth perception. Smile

When he was a puppy, Rupert gave me a fat lip, and konked my mom in the nose pretty good. We took each other out in agility once, he zigged, I zagged. He swept my legs right out from underneath me (It was probably my fault). Other than that he's pretty good. Especially now that I'm pregnant. I do get stepped on occasionally at night.

He's also a pillow stealer. Not really physical abuse, but not nice nonetheless. Smile

I hear ya!  Joey is by far more rambuncious than my toy poodle Gretchen ever was.  I've complained (jokingly so) about being in an abusive relationship with my dog too.  Every time warm weather rolls around and the shorts come out, I often have bruises to decorate my legs.  He's much better now about controling his jumping up but sometimes when we're playing, he'll pounce on me or push off or scratch without meaning to.  He gets 'stiff paws' when he's that excited; they're like switchblades flayling.  And sure, he's given me a fat lip a half dozen times or so.  I say all the times after the first were my fault for bending down to get bonked anyway!

Funny you should mention this.  I was showing my BF this morning how many bruises I had all over my legs!  I have about 5 bruises on my right leg alone, and about 3 on my left leg, from getting bumped into things from them.  Maddie jumped up a bit ago and badly scratched my side, it bled.

I have a scar on my arm from my old dog Goliath, back when he was a bit younger (he is gone now) when we were playing, he jumped up to grab a toy, lost his balance and one of his teeth caught my arm and tore it.

I think the difficulty we have at my house with Maddie and Zack, is that they are still puppies and act like it, but they are much bigger now, they are about 80lbs each, they are big big babies

The tops of my feet carry bruises all the time.  Crusher still just has no sense about where he should stand when I'm getting ready to take him somewhere.  Or maybe he just likes to stand on my feet.  But somehow he manages to put all 80 pounds onto one foot.  Other than that he's pretty good now, though if I'm laying on the couch and I invite him up, I'd better be settled in for the night.  Heaven forbid I have to get up to go to the bathroom or something.  I just try to curl into the fetal position until he has gathered himself up and gotten his balance enough to get down.

Oooooo!  I forgot about Crushers fondness for sticking his head through your legs from behind.  ''Oh!  Hello!  I was wondering who was standing here!''  Then he throws his head up to blow you a kiss.  It doesn't hurt me other than throwing me off balance a bit, but for some reason it almost always brings BF to his knees!  hahahaha

My worst has to be the "brand" my dogs put on me with a drag line.  Starts at the back on the left ankle and wraps all the way around to the front.  Bone to bone scarring.  It's about a quarter inch wide and still a bit sunken.  Oh well, thats what I get for paying more attention to a potential snake than a running dog on a line!

Oh, I forgot about those! Yes, I have had rope burn many times, but not as bad as yours. Yee-ow.

Other than the countless scratches and puppy nips, the most memorable is Ben going diagonally rather than straight through the collapsible tunnel at agility class and slamming into my knees.  I tripped right over him and had to snap my neck back to avoid face-planting the floor - got a nice case of whiplash from that.

ETA:  Logan!  Aunty Kate says to stop hurting your mum.

Glenda - one of my co-workers got that same sort of nasty scar around her ankles when her neighbor's dog got his flexi-lead wrapped around her ankles.  She was about 7 mos pregnant at the time, so the horribly painful scar just added insult to injury since her ankles were so swollen from the pregnancy.  I just detest those flexi-leads.

Gracie has been pretty good to me throughout her life, but the Bull Terriers that I dog-sat for - GOOD LORD!!!  Bugsy (the one who was at Westminster) has knocked me into a wall and bruised my thighs crawling all over me.  So has his mom, Sylvie.  She likes to climb on you like you're Mt. Kilimanjaro and getting to the top (biting your head/ears) is the best part of her day.  Man, I miss Sylvie!

Oh man, I'm surprised I'm not a cripple from Grady's antics.  When he first came home he was REALLY bad on a leash & has a huge prey drive.  Not to mention he is fairly strong.  I sprained an ankle, many many bruised knees (from falling on them) & I'm sure a case of whiplash from him.  Oye.  Thankfully he's sooooooo much better.

The worst Kobi does is paw my leg if he feels I am ignoring him. I never see it coming - because I'm ignoring him! LOL

On a not so funny note my dear friend is off her feet for 8 weeks due to her dog. 2 weeks ago at the dog park her choc. lab ran into her while chasing another dog. He caught her on the side of her knee and took her down - hard! The knee was basically shattered. She has a variety of pins and plates where her knee should be.

Nothing like 50 foot of cotton rope biting into your flesh to wake you up!  I too have been bitten by the lovely flexi leads, but those scars faded into oblivion.  This one.....not so much!  But, it basically cauterized as it went...not a drop of blood

    The knee sounds AWFUL!

Oh, wait!  I don't know how I forgot that I tried to pull Gracie from running into the road when she was a puppy and injured my shoulder!  Helped convince me that an e-collar would be useful for us! lol

When Crusher was young he would run around at the park with his lab friends chasing him.  If he thought they were getting too close he would look for an opening anywhere and run between someones legs.  When he was 4 months old everyone thought this was adorable and encouraged it.  At a year old though things were different.  Any newbie that came to the park was told quickly to keep their legs close together, and if they didn't listen they found out why.  He knocked a few people off balance!  At least nobody could get mad at me as they all took part in teaching it to him.(it was the same crowd every morning) Crusher never seriously hurt anyone though.

My list is a long one, but my head hurts and I can tell you it's that Woobie's fault!

This morning, he was barking up a flipping storm and I went to step onto the deck in my bathrobe, with soaking wet hair and in slippers and fell and got a concussion!

2 weeks ago, Indie jumped up just as I was bending down and gave me a fat lip.

For the first few months I had Woobie, I was black and blue from the knees down because he thought nip and run was the best way to get my attention.

Loads of other bumps and scratches, etc. I could add, but as I said, my head's a'hurtin'!
