Another skunk question - keeping them out

Another skunk question - keeping them out

Is there a way to keep skunks from coming in the yard? It's fenced all the way around with wood privacy fence in the front and chain link in the back - the back part of the yard borders a field.

I've heard of fertilizers and sprays that keep cats away....I wonder if any of those work on skunks?

Or, you could move to England....we don't have skunks here.

I've not heard of anything that really works.  My mom was using crushed moth balls since they were doing so much damage to her yard....didn't stop the little buggers tho.

Human hair is supposed to keep some animals away.  I wonder if that would work?  Just ask the salon to save their floor sweepings for you for a few days...that should give you plenty.

Try googling it.  I sometimes have problems w/ skunks, hiding under my concrete porch.  Haven't in a long while, but I remember there was something you can do, but for the life of me, don't remember.  If you google it, you may find something.

    Try googling it.

Unfortunately, the only things I've found recommended so far are bright lights and constant noise. Both are kind of hard to do when you're dealing with an acre and neighbors Sad

    Google gave me these Smile

"Skunks are very poor climbers and proper fencing will usually exclude them. A one-metre high fence made from poultry wire, with part of the mesh buried in an outward "L" shape below the ground, will keep skunks out."

Another site suggested using cayan (sp) pepper.  You may have to buy a lot of it though...perhaps from a bulk store Wink

Thank you :) unfortunately the first isn't really feasible for the person (not me) with the amount of ground she's got to cover, and the second isn't something we want to do with the dogs being out there too. We're dealing with an acre of land and six dogs that are on it daily. Thanks for the suggestions though and keep em coming :)

From personal experience, I don't recommend shooting them.  ;)
