Dog sprayed by skunk - HELP?!?!

 Tomato juice only helps a little, is costly and verrry messy.  This is what most groomers suggest now, and it works better than the juice (or the Massengill douche LOL):

I've heard the tomato juice thing before, as well.  I'm told it's not very effective.

Here's a solution from the PetCenter:

Immediate Action
Either use a treatment specifically formulated for use on skunk odors like Skunk Kleen or Skunk-Off, or use the following formula:

• 1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide
• 1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
• 1 teaspoon liquid soap

This recipe can be doubled for bigger breeds.

Wet your pet down and work the mixture through the pet's hair. Leave it on for three to four minutes and rinse. This will generally need to be repeated several times. Be sure to throw away any excess mixture. Do NOT get any of the mixture in the eyes; as a precaution, place protective ophthalmic ointment in the eyes.

Note that the above mixture may bleach the hair color temporarily until the animal sheds and new hair grows in. Common antidotes like tomato juice, vinegar, or regular shampoos will not be as effective.

I'm not sure what to do about getting the small out of the house, though.  Hmmm.

Please note:   The reason to throw away any excess it that if you store it in a container with a lid..it can explode! Do not take the chance.

Back a year and a half ago our dog got sprayed and we got skunk off shampoo and it worked verrry well!

 When it happened to us we bought Skunk Off from the vet. Some pet suppliers carry it too. It really helped you still had to do multiple baths to really get rid of it. One bath took the smell away so we could live with the dogs but if they got wet we noticed it still.

I am so sorry for you this is not pleasant.
