A nice adoption story.

    A nice adoption story.

Exactly two weeks and two day ago we adopted Lucy-Lu from a local shelter. I had been searching and searching for a dog to adopt. When we finally went to one of the local shelters I met Lucy and my heart was in my throat. I was so excited that I found a small dog with no sign saying that she was going to be adopted. I also saw another sweet little dog and I ran to the car to get my mother to come and look with me. She loved the Shih tzu so, we asked if we could take her out and meet her. The worker checked and said that we could even though someone else had applied to adopt her. Well, she was really cute so I though we would at least play with her a little but we wouldn't ever see her again. She was the sweetest little girl. She played with us and she even sat when I told her to! I also played with the other dog a little bit as well. I asked the people at the shelter if I could fill out an application for either of the dogs (both had other people wanting them) incase any of the adoptions well through. Well, boy did I luck out! They told me not to expect a call back until the end of the week if they were to even call me at all. I was very very surprised to get a call only about two days later! The people trying to adopt the shih tzu hadn't passed the written application for some reason. Well, as soon as I got the call I told them I was very interested! As luck would have it this was the week I was going to become a college grad. Even more lucky, was that on the day after my college graduation the family piled into the car along with my other dog Bailey. Bailey met Lucy- Lu and they didn't even bark. There was only one small growl and no signs of agression when they walked toward eachother or anything. At first Lucy didn't like to be picked up but, now she goes to bit as a warning but, dosen't actually do it if you know what I mean. She doe let me pick her up and she and Bailey love to taunt and tease eachother. It warms my heart to come home from work and see my two girls running side by side to meet me at the door! I am going to end my happy little story on a funny note. The dog I bought from a *pet store is not a pure bread, yet the dog I got from the animal shelter is!

    * Yea, I know that adopting from a pet store is bad. I found out about the place on the internet and I was under the impression that I was getting her from the breeder but, I was wrong. Anyway, as much ridicule as I am going to get for saying this, I am glad I got at least one dog out of the place. I later found out that they had 90 something violations and things I don't even want to speak about going on in that place. While, I did learn my lesson about doing a lot of research about a place BEFORE adopting the dog and I would tell people it is much better to adopt from a shelter, I am glad that I was at least able to save one.

My dogs didn't come from the best place either.  A BYB had an ad in the paper for the first one and then contacted me for the second just in case I was interested.  Up until that point I just wanted a dog.  Just because.  I was interested in dogsledding and these two sounded good to me.  It wasn't until months later that I found this place and it sparked the need to really learn about everything dog for me.  Do I regret getting my dogs?  No.  If the same lady called me again and asked if I would like another, would I?  No.  People change.  I'm glad you helped out Lucy-Lu too.  And I wish you many years of happiness with both of your dogs.

Just as a side note, it's pure BRED--bread is something to put peanut butter on!

Good to have a happy ending, isn't it?
