Are those Pedigree commercials killing anyone else?

    • Gold Top Dog

Yup, those commercials get me every time. Sigh.

BlackLabbie that one kills me too.

I can just about hold it until there's that big happy white and brown dog with this nose through the hole in the fence wagging his tail with big eyes. Then I lose it :(

I have to go hug my own because I remember how close she was to being euthed. The rescue pulled her only hours before she was scheduled to go. She was picked up in an abandoned house, very pregnant, and had 8 puppies (who also were rescued in the nick of time with her). It just makes me think of the "What I don't know, is how I ended up in here" line...she didn't know why her people left her :(

Earlier tonight they showed a montage, of sorts, with some video of Pedigree's VP of marketing (or some such upper level title.)  I SWEAR!!!!... in one of the shots of rescue/shelter dogs frolicking around... that there was a shot of Dobes on the property of the rescue where Gracie came from.  I went to the dogsrule website, poked around on the Adoption area, looked under "where to adopt" and one of only 4 rescues in the area of my old zip code WAS, in fact, the Dobe rescue that Gracie came from!!!  I am totally curious if it really was filmed there, or if I am just imagining it....

Oh, yes. They stopped running for a while, but I've been seeing them and it kills me.

Ack, sorry to double-post, but THAT is the one that gets me!! There is a dog who looks just like Pirate :(

    • Gold Top Dog

Yep, they kill me too.  And DH will even say "I don't like THAT one"......the one I've been seeing a lot of lately is Echo.

I was actually going to buy some canned pedigree just to feel not so bad about about myself, but I read the danged labels and the first ingredient in every single can is "water sufficient for processing".  Gosh, if they'd devote just 1% of that advertising budget to better ingredients......

Crappy food or not, they are doing a really good thing with their education campaigne.  But, gosh darn I wish they'd stop targeting ME....I've already got 3 rescues, do fostering and work with rescues!  Gosh darn.  Leave my poor old heart strings along!

You can donate strait to the adoption drive rather than buying the food.  Its supposed to be non profit, so I feel a little better about that than actually supporting Pedigree at the same time.

    • Gold Top Dog

Aw, that big brown & white dog is where I lose it too!

The Sarah McLaughlin (did I spell this right?) Humane Society commercal makes me cry, along with the Pedigree ones.  ~sniff sniff~  They do know how to get you where it counts. Broken Heart

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh yeah.  Max doesn't eat Pedigree, but those commercials make me want to go out and buy a couple of bags and take them to the local shelter.

It's rare that a commercial like the Pedigree ones can be pulled off without dissing shelters or otherwise ending up leaving me with a negative feeling, but this series seems to be pretty spot on.  I see those "take me home" looks every day at work. Sad

Yes, this is my problem as well. After the commercial starts, I don't see the dogs that are in the commercial - I see the dogs from work that give me those same looks every day. They too are good dogs and just want to home...then I have to hold back the tears when I think of the ones who didn't make it to new homes.

My BF looks at me funny every time I start to cry when watching those.. But hey at least my roommate is doing something good. He feeds his dog Pedigree. Maze used to eat it until she developed allergies. If I had a vehicle I'd donate a whole bunch of blankets and food to our shelter but it's so out of the way and not on a bus route so I just drop stuff in the food bank stuff that goes to the shelter. Best I can doSmile

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh yeah, it's the same with me.  Heck, I get choked up just writing about these ads.  Somebody on their advertising staff must have worked in shelters before.  They are VERY well done (sniff, sniff, eyes watering).

    • Gold Top Dog

I hate them, but I hope they're working!!!  The little blonde border collie looking pup smiles like my Woobie who also came from a kill shelter (not too high a kill shelter, I hope).  I start orientation on Saturday to volunteer there.  I'm sure there are more tears in my future.  But I hope I can give comfort to the dogs I see while I'm there and I hope I can help more get adopted.  :(
