What will you do with it?

So, according to DH, Americans are now officially going to get a tax rebate.  I believe it's $600 for individuals and $1200 for couples plus $300 for each kid.  So, what are ya'll going to do with yours?

     100% straight to CC debt.

I'll know after I do our taxes this weekend, but it may very well go right back to the folks who sent it to us. If not though (fingers crossed) I'd like to buy a new leather couch.

Hopefully, I will stick to this when the time comes....1/2 to CC debt (if it's not paid off by then) 2/3 of what's left to savings and the last bit have fun with....but by the time it gets here....who knows.

Pay for the camera I just bought (and charged).  DH wants a Wii.  We are getting $3100 back from school so that will go into savings, towards loans, or pay off other outstanding debt.  The tax rebates will be used to buy stuff, lol, just what they want!

ditto - I don't know why Bush is convinced people will spend it (to stimulate the economy).  I think it's a stupid plan that only puts more dollar figures into our national debt.  So, I guess I'll take the money and give it to the banks for increasing interest rates.  Is this where I say "thanks"??

I'm going to assume I am not going to be getting anything, because I am a private contractor, and I always have to pay taxes, and never get anything back. If I'm wrong about this, and I am getting the refund, it'll either go straight back to the government, or in to savings.

We're going to try to find a used trailer to use in our cross country trips.  We've currently got a Subaru Forester (named Totoro) that just fits our family and luggage in the back, but if (when!!) we get our dog this summer he gets the luggage spot in the back.  That means we need something to haul luggage with.  I was actually contemplating purchasing a small motorcycle trailer with one of those exterior coolers on it, then putting a drop hitch on Totoro.  Why haul more than you've got to?  And since our trips are to CO to visit family twice a year, we don't need to take that much luggage--we just wash what we've got.

If there's anything left from that, it goes to debt.  With two kids, the volume of the 'rebate' will be high enough that we'll most likely have some left over.

It's separate from income tax.  If you pay income taxes and make more than $3000 and less than $75000 (I think), you get it.  At least that's how it was proposed last week.

PS That's a trailer pulled by a motorcycle, not a trailer used to haul a motorcycle.

     Something like this:

Well, yah know, if you don't want the $600, I have a pair of dogs who would love encourage you to donate to the "Sally and Jack Want More Toys Than Mommy and Daddy Will Buy Us" fund....Wink

Actually, if it were not for Jack's underwear surgery (which came out to $1100 Indifferent) would would probably be spending most of it.  DH was very disappointed when I told him we'd be putting it into savings.....

It's actually a good thing if people use it to pay off debt, as I've heard lots of financial types say that part of the reason we are in this economic mess is that so many people are in debt.

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh, and sillysally--I don't know if I ever told you this, but I think your dogs are gorgeous.  Just wanted to let you know that.  I'm so happy to hear that Jack is doing better, as well.  :o
