Survey type of question about dates and agility

So I do agility as many of you know.  I'm part of a committee trying to get a TDAA trial in Indianapolis this fall.  I have looked at dates and other venues to try and prevent conflicts so that we will get lots of entries for the small dogs.

What I have found is that the 15th and 22nd of December, currenlty do not have trials posted anywhere around IN (meaning in WI, IL, OH or TN), so those seem like logical dates to me.

Someone cautioned that there must be a reason so many other clubs don't have trials scheduled on those dates.  So I wanted to inquire to the masses, not just agility folks, as to whether or not you would travel for a weekend dog related thing either of the two weekends before Christmas.  And if not, why?

Us agilty folks in the area don't have a problem but we want to get interest from IL, WI, OH and TN as well.  We need to at least break even on it and us locals wouldn't mind because we don't have to travel far or spend the night in a hotel.

My thinking is there is nothing on the schedule for those dates because they are so close to Christmas.  I bet other clubs have scheduled an event in the past, but had a poor turn out.  Just my two cents.

sure but I'm looking for responses of why you wouldn't go.  I can guess but I'm curious if people would say, heck no, too close to Christmas or no money because of the holiday, etc...

Okay, Heck no too close to Christmas, which means NO money left![sm=peace.gif]

I wouldn't go the 22nd due to the proximity to xmas, but the 15th would be fair game to me - as long as it was indoors. ;)

for me it would depend on how far i had to travel. if i could go and be home in time to go to a christmas party in the evening then i would have no problem with either date. otherwise, i would say the 22nd would be out for me. usually have a christmas party to go to the weekend before christmas. the 15th however might be doable.

of course, with all the christmas parties and travel we already do in december, it would be hard to get the energy up to go to either. but maybe that is just us.

I think with Xmas being in the middle of the week, the 22nd would be bad for people who travel, most will leave that weekend.  Those who are staying in town, would be doing  last minute shopping, etc.  The 15th sounds good on paper, since it would probably be a nice break from the holiday madness, but there are also so many events that time of year, that most people have every weekend in December booked up.  But I would say of those 2 dates, the 15th would be better.

I would do the 15th, in fact last year I did a USDAA trial on the weekend of the 10th. [;)] In our area we have a Tournament trial on New Year's eve weekend.  It is always a big turnout.  I was also at a trial last weekend which was Easter and there were plenty of other competitors there as well.

yeah, I can see why people wouldn't do it.  I guess I just don't have that much going on and I'm ADDICTED!  heh...

Dasher, I too went to a trial on Easter.  And two years ago did our first USDAA trial on New Year's weekend.  [;)]

15th yes,  We have done trials on or about that date.  Anything after no.  Too close to xmas and too many other things going on.

I'd do the 15th.  Maybe even the 22cd.  Maybe.

But then again, I do agility the Friday after Thanksgiving.  Have for YEARS.

Even though the dates aren't up yet on agilityevents.net, there are 4 days of trials in Milwaukee each year on the weekend that will coincide with 12/15.  These are AKC trials and they do fill -- nickname is Hounds for the Holidays or "Hounds" to those of us who are regulars there.  They are inside at a soccer facility.

Oops, sorry.  I thought you were wondering why nothing was scheduled for those dates.  Me, I definitely wouldn't go on the 22nd.  I'd probably only enter something on the 15th if it was close by, and, obvioudsly, indoors. [:)]
