    Voodoo needs a new home

Hi everyone! I'm here on behalf of a dog named Voodoo who needs a new home since he has attacked another dog in his home. I have grown to love him and if he has no home(or a foster home) in a few days he will be put down. His owner would like him to go to a working home if at all possible and he will not be able to live with other male dogs (he could possibly live with females with very close supervision and can never be left alone with them) he is a Catahlua mix (we believe). Here is the link to the post on the forum: http://www.chazhound.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50926

I just read your link and I am so sorry about what has happened. For the protection of both dogs I can understand why this is such a difficult decision to make. Do you know what the cause of the aggression is? I'm just afraid that if you re-home him then his problem may only get worse and his new owners may not be able to handle it either. I would start by doing some blood scening to see if there is a health related problem that is causing him to act aggressive. I once had a hypothyroid dog who if she went off her meds she would become extremely aggressive towards other dogs but when she was on her meds she was as calm as could be around others.

Also a behaviorist would be able to help a whole lot and evaluate the dog to see if it would be worthwhile to rehabilitate this dog either by you or someone else or if it would be better off putting him down. Sometimes the best thing for a dog isn't always what we would like it to be. I know you don't have a whole lot of time but for the safety of everyone I think it would be best to find the cause of the problem so you know you made the best decision you could for him.

    Edit:
Sorry I just read your original post and see you are only relaying this message to this board, if you could please send my message to the owner that would be great!

thanks for replying, we have some good news. We have a possible foster for Voodoo but a forever home is still in need. Unfortunately Voodoos owner has not been online and no one has been able to contact her to tell her we found a foster so we do not know if the owner is going to give Voodoo to the foster owner yet but if you read that link I think it continues to update along with the site.

Here's another thread about Voodoo in the canine connection section- [linkhttp://forum.dog.com/asp/tm.asp?m=314115]http://forum.dog.com/asp/tm.asp?m=314115[/link]

Right now we're waiting on word from his owner though.

I'm really sorry for Zeus and I am also very sorry for Voodoo.

Did it occur to anyone that this dog is part pit bull???

They are known for dog aggression and should NEVER be left unsupervised with other animals. I'm sure if this dog can make it to a pit bull rescue of sorts, they may be able to find him a home. I hope his foster home is pit bull savvy and understands that this dog is most likely going to need to be in a crate and rotate type situation to avoid attacking other dogs.

I'm really sorry that this happened to his owner and to both dogs. A dog attack (whether on a human or another dog) is NEVER an easy thing to deal with. I hope through this there can somehow manage to be a happy ending.

Voodoo is a BEAUTIFUL dog and if I didn't already own a pit bull dog aggressive dog and lived in that area, I'd snatch him up in a heartbeat. That dog would probably be very good in agility or in weight pull. ANY type of work that could keep him focused on something, could possibly...turn that dog aggression into productive energy for work. Or something like that.

The pit bull is really up for debate as his ancestry is completely unknown.  I just added that on that thread because tome it seemed like a better solution to try to find somewhere that would know how to deal with dog aggression.  I do think he looks like he has a bully breed in him as well.

oh, it's unknown if he has pit bull in him?

I see pit bull when I look at his picture. I'm sorry, I thought it was known.

I see pit in him too.  He was a stray that showed up on his owner's porch about a year ago.  So breed isn't a certainty though they think he is a catahoula mix and I think it's safe to say a mix with pit or some other bully breed, though I'm by no means any kind of expert.

sorry i didn't know you had already posted something, i had just gone on a post this on a bunch of sites spree right before Zoom said she found a foster. Gempress had thought he was a pit bull mix but after speaking with her vet came to the conclusion that he was a Cataluha  mix, but many still think there is pittie. She does know pit bulls are dog aggressive though and i don't know if they were unsupervised when it happened or not. The first time she was home since she said it was over a tortilla. i really hope she signs back on soon though...

They can try to contact Catahoula Rescue. Here's a link to their board: [linkhttp://members5.boardhost.com/catahoularescue/]Catahoula Rescue Board[/link]

She may be a Catahoula Bulldog. It's a Catahoula/Pit mix that is often bred for hog hunting & hog dog trials. Regular Catahoulas are bred to gather wild hogs and "bay" them for the hunter's to kill or for trials. Some use pitties and Catahoula Bulldogs to "hold" or grab the hogs for hunting and hog dog trials.

Thanks for the info.  We'll pass it on.  They tried a bunch of houla rescues but I'm not sure which ones.  Many wouldn't take him because of his unknown ancestry and the dog fight incident.

No worries.  It's good to see so many people working on this.  :)
