    NY Times article on shelters

I enjoyed this article, so I thought I'd share. It requires a free registation to read it.

All those ;poor dogs that just need a good home to realize how good they are!

An absolute MUST read for any dog lover.  Hooray for the NYTimes for getting it right this time.  I was weeping through most of it as it was solidly reflective of the give and take we have with the animal world. (see Olive's story)

"Dogs still are animals — our endless manipulations and misperceptions of them notwithstanding — and it has now become the added and somehow logical role of animal shelters, in concert with local veterinarians, pet stores and dog breeders, and an ever-growing network of applied animal behaviorists and trainers, to remind us of this simple truth. To help us step back and readdress our best friends again."

Amen to this.  After  much dischord and disagreement on parts of this forum as to "how" training should be carried out, or who is "better" effectively with their means of training....I thought this quote from the article served to illustrate many diverging views here at idog that genuinely seek the same consequence...that we "..step back and readress our best friends again", and serve them well.

This article moved me so...thanks for bearing with it...Coleen
