Baby food in the kong?

Okay We have had our pup for about a month now. When we go to work we are only gone for 4 hours ( 1am to 4am). We usually leave Lex in the apartment loose. He really doesnt cause any trouble except going potty and chewing anything paper-like. So we have come to the decision to get him a crate. I want him to learn how to not potty in the house ( the only time he does it is when we are gone). I also bought him a kong today. He loves chewing, bones keep him occupied for hours. Okay now to my question, I read in here that some baby foods where safe to give to dogs. I was wondering if I could put some in his kong and freeze it? Also what types are safe for him to eat?

How about just a regular high quality soft food instead of baby food ? Most baby foods are really mushy and have vitamin supplements. If you just gave your (really adorable) pup a portion of his daily food allowance in the Kong that would work well - you could freeze it to make it harder to extract and keep him busy longer.

Baby food is safe, as long as you don't use one that contains onion. Just check the ingredients to make sure there is no onion listed. You can also use yogurt, mashed banana, or pureed fruit and veggies, which would be cheaper than baby food.

The thing to watch with yogurt is the sugar content. Nonflavored yogurt is probably best because it has the least extra "stuff" and most dogs seem to like it even without extra flavorings.

Ok cool. Today I just put a little penut butter and some of his kibble. I hope it keeps him occupied[

I give Raja the Beech Nut brand. The ingredients are very simple and the sodim is very low and there are no preservatives or addives.

I would just freeze it, or you could always get Soft food, sometimes I mix dry with Chicken Soup or Natural Balance soft food and freeze it.

Hey zatchbell, your Lex is one cutie...what sort of pup?

Also want to mention that most grocery store peanut butter, has the natural oils taken out and the toxic hydrogenated kind added. It is also full of salt and sugar.

The best for people and animlas is the "just peanuts" sort...which contains ONLY ground up peanuts.

I buy my dogs thier own pb. the 100% natural PB. I know I know it would be better for us too, but I grew up on Kraft.

I layer kongs and marrow bones with Kibble, plain yogurt, pumpkin, and peanut butter. Then I freeze it. They love it and it keeps them busy for a long time. The kongs longer than the marrow bones. Sometimes I just put into a bowl and mix it up and then scoop it into the kongs.

I have used all natural peanut butter, baby food, and sometimes some of the soft meat treats in with either of the above. I think they are made by natural balance or something. always frozen, as they will keep them busy a lot longer.

Well it worked. He really liked it and dosent make a fuss at all about his crate. Lex is really mellow by nature so I was hoping he wouldnt be bothered by the crate. I am going to try some pumpkin and maybe some baby food. Give him some of a variaty ya know?
