What's for dinner?

I like my bacon soggy too!! But that's because my grandma used to give us almost burnt bacon. So now I just cook my bacon till the meat part gets a nice browning to it. But if Samantha wants some I cook hers a little more.  And get this. Im not the person that wants her steaks still mooing. I would rather eat it burnt that raw. But bacon has to be soggy!!

    Anyways I made cheeseburgers tonight.

Erp..Food.... Yuck.. Lol. Tonight is what ever I can find in the pantry.. I don't own a working oven until next month and my oh so loving roommates decided to eat all the food I brought in to the house.. Tell me this, how can 2 people who claim to be starving, eat over 300$ worth of food when BF and I only saw maybe 100$ worth in two weeks.. I don't understand!!

Well, my 11yr.old daughter (who definitely takes after her father, thank God!) made dinner tonight!  She made breaded fish, a rice side dish, and asparagus!  And BOY DID IT TASTE GREAT!!!  Of course, it always taste better to me, when I don't have to cook!  LOL

Daddy, only helped flipping over the fish so it wouldn't fall apart!  What a GOOD GIRL!!

We are trying reign in some expenses and are only going to the grocery store once a week and making all meals except one at home (I was shocked to see how much we spent on stupid food purchases because we didn't have anything for dinner at home).  We decide what we are going to have for the whole week, make the list, and buy only those things from the list.

We've been doing this about a month now. One night a week is McDonalds/Wendy's...the rest I cook something from the menu, the weekends can go either way....Lily and dh pick something for each day...I fill in the rest...Elias eats anything LOL! I shop from the list but I always need things for Lily's lunch/Elias's lunch and snack that aren't on there. We've been doing well tho with about $100-120 per week being spent....we got a Sam's Club card for the meats/main courses and drink bags etc. That helped a lot.

I find I can do pretty good money wise if I go to the Wal-Mart Superstore. The "Peoples Republic of Davis" would never let  allow a Wally-Mart inside the city limits, but the closest one is only 8 miles away in Dixon. I like Costco, too -  but if I go there I wind up spending a fortune and I don't  really have all that much freezer space.

Yeah - I reached my breaking point when we went grocery shopping two weeks ago, spent $90+ and didn't really have anything for dinner.  My goal is $60 a week for everything, plus some meat (pork and turkey).  My dad's best friend is a butcher so we buy 20-30 lbs of chicken breasts, 15 lbs. ground beef, and a bunch of steaks every couple of months so I don't count that.  The prices are so low that you cannot beat it ($1.29 lb for chicken).  We have a Sam's Club membership that I mainly use for diapers, cereal, toilet paper and stuff like that.  I wish we had a Costco because I like their store better, but Milwaukee only has a Sam's.  Riley pretty much eats whatever we eat so we don't have to worry about baby food anymore which is good!

We decide what we are going to have for the whole week, make the list, and buy only those things from the list.  We are getting down to the wire here (we shop on Saturday), so tonight will be boring old grilled chicken, baked sweet potatoes, and salad.  Sigh....I wish I could pick up something exciting, like a pizza!

We do the same thing.  I grocery shop on Sundays and make a menu every Sunday for Sunday through Thursday with at least 2 being meals that won't go bad right away if I don't make them that week.  We eat out Friday and Saturday.  We really splurge on one of those meals and then the other is either cheap take out but lately has been me finding something in the pantry of freezer to make that is already paid for.  There are two reasons we do this: money and diet.  So I am always on a diet and it is expensive to be on a diet and hard to be on a diet when you eat out all the time.  So anyway we just really enjoy that one night out and don't feel guilty if we go to a really nice place.  Our groceries for one week lately have been running us around $160 and that includes a 12 pack of beer, a "nice" box of wine and at least 2 x  $8-$10 steaks...plus I mostly only buy fresh veggies and they add up.....It cover my breakfast and lunch everyday as well.  So hubby only buys lunch and that is the only added expense per week so all in all that isn't too bad.

Anyway, tonight we had homemade pizza's.  I got pita bread and tomato sauce and turkey bacon plus onions, olives, artichokes, mushrooms, 2% mozarella cheese and tomatoes.  Healthy but hearty....I may make them again this weekend but with some chicken strips I bought that I will thaw, cut, bake and then toss around in some pizza wing sauce.  Yummm!
