My Thoughts Of THIS FORUM.

When I was growing up all dogs were treated like the OP is stating.  Times have changed. Now that type of dog ownership is irresponsible.

I hope the OP has good insurance as someday when a child is bitten or worse a good umbrella policy will be needed.

As far as people treating their dogs like humans (keeping them inside) I do it because I like the dog better than most people I run into....

Personally I think you maybe are questioning why you treat your dog the way you do ? And perhaps your neighbors feel different,  but are too polite to tell you. If you let your dog roam free in my "hood" the dog catcher would be hauling your dog to the pound as we speak !

Don't you ever watch Animal Planets  Pet Cops?    Boy , that crew from New York would have you imprisoned.

Frankly I'm a little disturbed by quite a few of you here.  We're Idoggers and tend to stick together, but your willingness to jump on the "Lets beat up the 17 year old and catch him in a lie" bandwagon is frightful.  THIS IS A KID!  We were all kids at one point in our lives.  And nobody learns a thing by having it shoved down their throats!

and BTW, my friend had a husky wolf cross that was almost as sleek as a Dobe.  Her parents were both known.  So the fur factor really doesn't play here.

    Thank you, Candace.

Now....Admin speaking....a warning has already been issued in this thread to play nice.  The OP has already said that he is leaving, which he did rather more graciously than might have been warranted.  I do not personally see the point in anyone continuing to post to this thread, but if you must, please remember that this is not some twilight zone where the normal rules of decorum have been temporarily suspended.

Any further warnings necessary will be private ones from me.

I don't have an opinion on this poster, but if he's trolling he very well may not be 17. ;) I've seen it all on the net, including faked deaths and extremely convincing personas that are only found out after years and years. It is wise to keep a skeptical mind when traveling the tubes.

I don't think age matters one bit in any of this discussion. The OP is around the same age as quite a few of us posters on here, myself included.

I think everyone needs to lay off, and end this thread.

OP - If you have other questions, please feel free to ask them! We are all here to help, no matter how it might seem at times. You can learn a TON trough this site, and I encourage you to stick around and see what some of us have to say. Not all will be negative. =] (I know, I said I was done with this tread, but I think things are all getting rediculous. Everyone is acting immature.)

why say sorry, like i would believe you over a professional vet?  Her mother is a german and dad is Chow.   you both could not see a gsd all day dosnt mean much of anything. Its your opinion but fact that she is a gsd chow mixed.

Just to let you know, vets don't spend 7 years at vet school learning to identify dog breeds.  There ARE people on this board who are better at that than your average vet.  So it's really not completely ridiculous to listen to what they are saying.  Especially Xeph... search her posts and see what hard work she has put into her dog!  She has the kind of experience you need to listen to.  Also, as a mixed dog, your dog won't have "papers", so don't believe everything you read!  Did you actually meet her parents?  What were their temperaments like?  That's the sort of thing you NEED to know if you want a dog that will protect you.  The VAST majority of dogs, without the right genes and the right training (that really can't be emphasised enough!) will, when it comes to the crunch, run rather than stand.

I just LOVE your puppy pics.  Thanks for posting Smile

I'm sorry you have had a hard time on this thread.  We love dogs here, and as someone else said, keeping a latchkey dog isn't OK anymore, like it was a generation or two ago.  I hope you can (and will!) transition your dog to spending more time indoors with you.  Kudos on arranging classes for her.  I have no more to add to this thread.

My dog lives outside too (sadly) but he is not allowed to roam free he lives in a kennel. He is not allowed to roam free b/c for one thing it would be irresponsible of me to do it (he use to escape when I would open his kennel not anymore though). Secondly, I didn't want him to get picked up by the dog pound b/c you get a fine of $50 dollars the first time and the second time I believe they take the dog. And finally, I don't want him to get hit by a car because he might not die and might end up with a broken leg or something else and that would be $300> of vet bills.  Eventhoug my dog lives outside it doesn't mean I don't pay attention to him. He lives outside yes but he knows his basic commans: sit, stay, come, heel, stop, leave it, up, down, lay, over, open (when he does comes inside and I have my hands full he opens the door for me) and paw (shake; left or right on command) some of the commans he knows both in spanish and english. For excerise I work with him on agility. Since we don't have a club around here we just do it for fun on a DIY Agility course I built. He knows how to weave poles, go over obsticles, go over and down the A-frame, and walk a planck. I don't work him much though because he is getting up on age and we take things smoothly. I love your dog by the way she is beautiful. I am 18 too.

You know what the police would do around here if there were a dog habitually running loose causing problems that they couldn't catch.  They would shoot it.  In fact if that dog were endangering my dogs I would shoot it and be well within my rights under the law.

Well, I kinda skipped alot in this forum, but have gotten a jest of what we're all talking about.  But reading this, this is what would happen here to in PA.  In fact, I need to renew my gun permit, and after reading some of the incidents that have happened to people here while walking their dogs, I definitely am going to renew, and start carrying again!  I wouldn't hesitate to kill a dog, human, or any other animal for that matter who intends me bodily harm as to where I'm fearing for my life!

It sounds from what I read I think, but not sure if I have the right person (gahustle) wants a guard dog, but doesn't think professional training is necessary...feel free to correct me, like I stated, I didn't read all the posts, but I would seriously reconsider that thought.  If I had gotten a dog for protection, I would definitely want to have some kind of a professional to help me achieve this.  My reasons being, to get the full effect of what I want and expect out of my "watch dog".  I would want to make sure, when family comes over, or my kids are around, it's not going to want to protect me from my children running to give me a hug, thinking I'm in danger!  Ok, that's it for now, I'm going to keep reading, so I'm not out of the loop.Smile

This is a dog forum, so most of the people here do things above and beyond just tie their dog up outside.  If we all tied our dogs up outside this forum would be kind of boring.  Posts would look more like... "Well, it's Day #347, dog is still there.  Yep, he's still tied up.  I refilled its water bowl and gave him some food.  Alright, that's about it!  See you guys tomorrow!"

That would be it, wouldn't it!  LOL

Dogs are not human.  But they sure are Awesome.  Sometimes I think they are better than Human.  They dont care what you look like, what you smell like or even if your in a bad mood.  They love you just the same. They dont judge you either.  I treat my dog like a dog.  Ever heard the saying "A man's best friend?"  They can be if you treat them right.  No one should own a dog if they can't treat them good.  I don't think you have to take this out of control or go crazy, but come on, everyone is different right?  Just love your dog!  That's what I say.
