I'm more worried about my backyard. If it rains long and hard, my pool will overflow and that could be a huge mess.

For some weird reason, no matter how long and hard it rains, the pool doesn't overflow.  But ... if I'm raising the water level and forget to turn the water off, the patio table is floating across the yard in an hour. Surprise I seriously don't understand that.  Maybe some day I'll remember to ask the pool guy.

I hope it's the same for us Joyce. I know it's got an overflow hole, but it's awfully tiny. We've gotten close to the top with just some hard rains we've had. We also have drains throughtout the yard to help with run off, but if they get clogged with mud, it's not pretty. I guess now is when we'll find out how well the drainage is in the backyard Big Smile. It'll be nice not to have to worry about a drought after this passes though.

Honestly, I'd love to be snowed in up in Tahoe this weekend. It's going be absolutely gorgeous up there. I just wouldn't want to have to drive up or back from now till next Tuesday or Wednesday though.

Well it's not wet here, yet... but it's blowing pretty hard on this side. I took the pups to the dog park, since we have a blizzard warning for tomorrow night and we'll get the rain tomorrow and then snow at night.

It would be fun to be up at Tahoe!... but as you said, only if you don't have to leave.  Sounds like 80 is gonna be impassable for the next few days.

Gonna head up to do some skiing at the end of this?

You are going to have such an amazing scene up there. I'm really envious, especially if you have someone who'll come shovel and plow you out in a few days Wink. Your dogs are gonna love it too!

I used to ski every weekend, mostly at Sierra Ski Ranch but the last time I went was Sugarbowl. Not sure why, but I just kind of lost interest. I love the skiing part but I don't like the hassle of getting up there and back and I was a real whiner about having to carry all my equipment and walk in my ski boots - ugh! I really just liked the atmosphere of sitting near the fire with something warm and watching people Embarrassed

It's just now started to rain here and it's as dark as it usually is around 5:30. I just hope the ride home is uneventful.

I'm in the East Bay, and it's stopped raining here for the time being. Tonight and tomorrow it should rain with a vengeance, which I know we need, but I've been so enjoying the clear blue skies we've had recently. I'm so glad we redid our yard this year. We had crappy drainage, and a stupid little strip of lawn which turned into a swamp half the year - seriously, it was under standing water whenever we had several rainy days in a row. We took out the lawn, broke up the cement patio, removed the failing pressure treated lumber retaining wall for the raised planter along the back fence, and put in a stone wall and pavers, with some new planted areas, with MUCH improved drainage. We can actually go in the backyard in the winter, even when it's been raining - what a concept! Hope everybody stays safe and nobody floods!

Wow that's scary----I thought it never rains in California, like the old song says.I always wanted to see California or move there, but now with all this crazy weather all over, I might as well stay put.  Good luck to all of you over there.

Don't confuse Northern California with Southern California, lol! We definitely get rain up here!

    • Gold Top Dog

Yeah,I just found that out from my husband. He said Southern California has three hundred some days of sunny weather-----oh that sounds so nice.

Well, the house is still standing this morning but man, the winds are BAD! It's still too dark to tell what damage has taken place outside. News is showing trees down all over town and some power outages. DH just left for work and I'll be worrying for the next 30 min's or so until I know he's made it there safely. He's on the medic truck for the next 48 hours, so I hope it's a quiet shift, but not likely. Even in good weather, people call 911 when they have the flu and want to go to the ER. I'd guess they'll be more likely to call in weather like this Hmm

Just saw the weather this morning!  Boy you weren't kidding.  It looks pretty nasty!  Have to admit, though, better you than me!  lol  Embarrassed  Hope you don't get beat up out there!  Stay inside if you can...and keep warm!!

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh, Cathy, I'm glad the house is still up, I hope it's not too bad down there... it's just getting here.  Blowing rain, driving winds... it's arriving as I type this, I can hear it HOWLING out there. Whew.  How'd the dogs do?  For mine, this is their first big storm. How're you hanging in there, other West Coasters?

Oh, I feel ya with the walking in ski boots and lugging skis ... and finding something to do with this and that... and where is that (Oh, man, I left it in the car!), such a pain in the butt. But, if you have a change of heart let me know! .... I bet ya Squaw is gonna have some awesome powder come..... Tuesday (LOL) When is this storm supposed to end, ACK!!

I'll have your husband in my thoughts. I'm sure people are more prone to abuse 911 in this situation due to a number of reasons. But, I'm sure he'll be fine... and ready for the jacuzzi by the end of today!

I don't know how people on the east coast do it. This is certainly not a hurricane, but the wind gusts are 50-60 mph and everytime they hit, my heart jumps. The pool actually has waves in it.  The lights have flickered a few times, so I decided to get a shower in before I lost power. I just heard on the news that there are 5 big rigs tipped over in various areas - yikes! Right before DH left for work, he told me about 2 sections of fence that he's worried about. He reinforced them yesterday but said to keep an eye on them. Ummm...and if they fall over, what do I do then? Confused

The wind is blowing against the front of the house, so Sassy thinks someone is out front and does this low "wuff, wuff".  Poor girl. Not much rattles Buffy, so she's fine.

It be RAINING!!! It's almost 8:45 AM here, and still dark. The winds are blowing and it's pouring. The dogs have poked their heads outside a few times, but don't seem too keen to go out and potty, lol!

Oh how I'd LOVE to be out there come Monday or Tuesday. Crying

I hope mother nature has something left after this. I'll be in whistler,b.c. 15 days from now... Left HugStorm

There's a news guy posted up higher to monitor the snow. It's close to white-out conditions already and they're just beginning to get the brunt of the storm. He said he could hear explosions every few minutes and it was the avalanche control teams setting off dynamite. Yeah - it's going to be some of the best skiing conditions we've seen around here in many years.  The local lake should be nice and full too - yay!

Wow it's nasty down here in Bakersfield too! Except I WISH it would rain (supposed to tonight). We are in the middle of a HUGE dust storm! Looks like brown fog. I hate, hate, hate them! No matter how careful you are to close windows, doors etc. you still get dust in the house! The dogs are going nutty too because they can't go outside so it's me and 3 dogs, a cat, a 3 year old and a 1 year old cooped up in the house. FUN! LOL. I am driving up to Livermore (East Bay) on Monday so the weather had better let up. They are closing the highways here because the dust is so bad there is zero visibility!
