What are you reading (NDR) right now?

How are you liking it? Genre?

I just finished two Patricia Briggs horror/fantasy books I really liked...as well as the latest Laurell K Hamilton book. Went back and read a couple Sir Arthur Conan Doyle books too!

dean koontz - fear nothing. i was bored with it at first, but about 1/2 way through it started getting interesting. the best part is the main character's side kick... a lab mix named orson.

i just finished the good guy by dean koontz. it was alright.

i have been listening to audiobooks mainly lately. a good reader definitely can make a mediocre book better, and a poor reader can make a good book mediocre.

I'm a sucker for fantasy books. I just finished the Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass, By Philip Pullman. The first and the third book were the best, the second book was kind of boring to me. I have not seen the movie yet but I hope it is as good as the book.

I'm going to start reading the Dragonlance and Eberon books again as soon as they are released in paper back. Smile

I was about the venture into the George Martin series Song Of Ice & Fire....anyone read that? Thoughts?

I am currently reading Applied Behavior Analysis, 2nd Edition, by John O. Cooper, Timothy E. Heron, and William L. Heward. Yes I do like it, even though it is a textbook.

I just finished (and returned to the library) Amy Tan's "Saving Fish from Drowning".  This book was way different from Tan's norm.  I'm not quite sure I really liked it, but I waded through it, so it mustn't have been horrible.  Currently I'm reading Attenborough's Amazing Rare Things, which is more about art and natural history.  Really fascinating and gorgeous illustrations.  Google Maria Sibylla Merian if you've got some time to explore and immerse yourself in an amazing life.  I also finished watching The Flame Trees of Thika, which I thought was a movie, but really it is a 5 or 6 hour series.  So, after watching, I checked the book out.  I enjoyed the series, hopefully the book will be nice (and should take about the same amount of time as watching did).  It's a true story about a young English girl who lives in Africa on a coffee farm.  For many years running I read CS Lewis' Narnia series at Christmas time.  I haven't done that in a long time.  Hmmmm, maybe the next snow storm.  But I also have the Julie of the Wolves trilogy to read.  I read the first, maybe the second, as a grade school child, but never knew about book 3.  And I also have Love in the Time of Cholera on my read list.

Dog related, I'm reading Control Unleashed and will start it over as soon as finished.

I'm reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy and City of Widows: An Iraqi Woman's Account of War and Resistance by Haifa Zangana.   Both are amazing.  Next I'm reading Doing Anti-Oppressive Practice: Building Transformative Politicized Social Work.

I just finished the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, and have bought A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author. The Kite Runner was profoundly disturbing and heartbreaking, but oh so good. It really gives you a glimpse into the turmoil that has been Afghanistan for the past 40+ years, and helps the reader to gain a perspective of the middle east that is far from the demonization that goes on in the minds of many. I loved it, thought it was amazing. I picked it up and finished it in the same weekend. I couldn't put it down. It is now a (very controversial) film that was just released this past weekend, and I am DYING to see it. There was a ton of buzz about it concerning the safety of the Afghani child actors because of the questionable nature of some of the scenes. I HIGHLY recommend this book. I am just about finished with Eat, Pray, Love, by Elizabeth Gilbert. I love this one too. Very light, a woman's search for herself through Italy, India, and Indonesia. This book mixes intense spirituality with humor, romance, and distress. Its really a great read. I just bought today and started reading on the subway ride home from the bookstore The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. I don't usually read more than one book at a time, (and I haven't recently had time to read -- as graduate school eats up my entire life!!) but I just can't decide which one I want to read first!!! So I just go with all of em!

I just picked up New Spring by Robert Jordan from Border's this evening. This book is a prequel to the Wheel of Time (WoT) fantasy series. I've read all of the WoT books to date which there are 11, if I remember rightly. Unfortunately the guy died this year, so there won't be any more authored by him. I liked his writing style, even if it was overly descriptive and tended to reuse some phrasing a bit much. I've read somewhere that the series will continue and eventually conclude.. I hope so.

The Wheel of Time is a good read. I preferred the characters in Eddings work...and the grit in Goodkind's but that series is also very good.

Alieliza - Let me know if Thousand Splended Suns is good.  I love, love, loved Kite Runner.  It's one of those books I wish I'd never read so I could read it for the first time all over again.  Everyone should read Kite Runner.  Another book you may like is Three Cups of Tea.  It's a beautiful (true) story, but I thought the writing could be better.  Even so, I think it is important to read as it gives you perspective on a culture most of us know little to nothing about.  Also very inspiring as to what one person can do.

and the grit in Goodkind's but that series is also very good.

I love Terry Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" series.  A solid 11 books long, and a great epic.

Right now, I'm finishing up "Betrayal in Death" by J.D. Robb aka Nora Roberts.  The "In Death" series is FABULOUS, especially if you love mystery, suspense, and a touch of romance tossed in.  The series is a totally different animal than Nora Roberts' typical romance novels.  Much more gritty and intense, love it!

I can't read mystery or romance unless it's historical. I loved the Brother Cadfael mysteries..."The Alienist" by Caleb Carr was amazing...and "An Instance Of A Fingerpost" is a HUGE but excellent book.

I do also read trash romance..Lindsey, Laurens, and Small being favorites along with Woodiwiss.

i'm being a literary snob right now..... seems every book i get my hands on tries to drown me in mundane details, or gag me with overly sweet banter, or the book leaves too many loose ends and no hope for a sequel..

i'm too embarrassed to even mention which books i've read!! lets just say i have been reduced to an online copy of The Sporting Bull Terrier, written in the 20's. and only reading it for historical purposes ..... and sheer boredom!!

Just finished His Dark Materials (Golden Compass trilogy). I enjoyed it, though there were parts that were kind of draggy in books 2 and 3. I have Wicked that I have not started yet....DH started it and didn't finish it, maybe thats a bad sign.
