About a month ago, I stopped by the butcher in the next town over. We don't have one here even though it is a bigger town, all we have is WalMart and Albertsons...they don't know a bone from a rock! I went in and asked for marrow bones for the dogs and they said $1.99/lb...still cheaper than what I usually pay for chews. Then they told me that they have "dog bones" for $0.25/lb. I decided to try those and see how it went, if I didn't like them, its still a tiny amount of money to be out. I got 5lbs which was a good 20-30 bones sized perfectly for my dogs. I threw a couple away because they were kinda thin, but still less than I was paying for 1 chew! I finally used up what I had and gave them some bones yesterday. I think they may have been small ribs. Colton had a large amount of tarter on a couple of his teeth. I usually scrape what I can with my scaler, but he had quite a bit that I couldn't get. I looked at his teeth after the bone...SO MUCH BETTER! Rose has always had better teeth even though she is older, but now he has minimal tarter. I was very happy with the improvement. I used to be afraid to give raw bones, but my mentor assured me that at least beef is safe(Im still not sold on chicken), and they haven't died yet!
