Three!!! (update) (2nd update + pics) (3rd update: Thor at home)

This morning everything was perfect. The Sky was blue and my friend call me to walk our dogs. We let them off-leash, they were playing and we were talking and taking pictures... then, Thor found a ball and when I tried to get it to see what kind of ball that was, Thor swallowed the ball!!

I almost fall!!! Because I remembered that one time when I thought Thor did the same thing but everybody told me that I was crazy if I think that would be possible... and actually he was great and nothing happened. Today, I went back home running with Thor and take him to the vet right away!! They did him a x-ray and it revealed THREE balls!!!! 3!!!! So... tomorrow I'll leave him on the vet to be operated.

I have cried a lot, feeling guilty and nervous and mad with him and mad with my friend, because Thor has his huge kong ball, but my friend's dog has always those rubber balls that are big for his golden retriever but no that big (now I know) for Thor... and they always share their toys... I'm almost 90% sure that he has those rubber balls on his tummy. But, as the vet told me, those things happen and is nobody's fault... But I feel so bad... I was so excited today because I prepared his first frozen kongs with yogurt last night and who knows when he will eat them.

Oh please... I need some support guys!! Crying

...and sorry if I wrote something wrong...

Gee whiz, any more and HE would bounce!!!

This isn't uncommon, but you are very fortunate that it didn't obstruct him.  this isn't a bad surgery -- and the *good* part is that the vet knows exactly where these things are -- often with an obstruction they can't FIND the item swallowed, but at least the balls were big enough not to pass into the intestine.

I've known dogs to eat balls, rocks and all sorts of weird stuff.  You'll just have to be watchful and try and not let him HAVE anything he can swallow (silly Thor!!)

Did the vet tell you to fast him and not feed him tonight or anything like that?  The vet will probably give you antibiotics (so he doesn't get septic) -- he'll need a little of Mom's loving care but he should be fine.

Good for you for going to the vet before he "acted" sick!!!!

You surely have MY good thots and prayers and everyone else's too, I'm sure!!

Thor you silly boy!! Don't scare us like that. Ok enough scolding... be strong for your surgery.

Good job to you for knowing something was wrong and getting him in right away. He's lucky to have such a great mommy.

Good luck tomorrow Thor. You are lucky to have such a good mom to get you to the vet before you got sick!

Don't feel guilty. These things happen and it could have been much worse if it had passed into his intestine. I would go through his toys before he comes home and make sure there aren't anymore small enough for him to swallow.

    Thor, you silly boy!!

Sending good vibes that everything goes perfectly tomorrow!

Thor!!  You silly boy.  Balls are for PLAYING with, not eating.  So many good vibes for you tomorrow.  Give him some scratches for me & a forehead kiss if you can.  I'll be thinking of you, you handsome boy.

He must think he is Wiccan!  3!  Well to the power of three, let him have 3 times the healing vibes!

Today at the vet clinic, we had two littermate lab pups come in that had each eaten half of a tennis ball. The surgery went easily, and they were resting very comfortably by the time I left for the day, so I'm sure Thor will be just fine! I will be keeping him in my thoughts and sending good vibes! No more eating those bouncy balls, silly boy!

i'm sorry this happened but just as well. i mean.. if he hadnt swallowed that last one, if you hadnt seen it yourself, then he would still have the other two in his stomach and who knows... eventually would have caused MAJOR blockage in his intestinal track.

To make you feel a little better, here is a true story about a puppy that swallowed a 13 inch serrated knife and SURVIVED!!

Good luck to you both!! maybe he needs a different kind of treat besides a kong? or at least leave kongs for supervised play only?

Thor, don't you know that balls are to play with, not eat!

Sending Thor smooth surgery vibes, & mom, calm vibes durint this stressful time.

Thank you so much! I'm going to bed now but first I came here.

Thor is OK, but a little upset because he didn't had his dinner and the cats did. I gave him some ice chips and he was excited... for a while. But he knows that I'm worried.

I didn't tell this before but my husband works in a ship and he is now in the middle of the caribbean sea. I e-mail him with the news. He called me and gave me more strenght. He also talked to Thor a little bit. Smile We were supposed to meet this weekend... but of course, I'm not traveling anymore.

Keep thinking in my rubber ball lover, please.

By the way, he didn't swallowed his kong ball... that ball is to big for him. He swallowed his friend's balls which are little... once I gave my friend's dog one kong ball trying to get rid of those suspicious balls that had tendency to disappear. But my friend thougt that was a "special" ball so he never let his dog go out with that... only to play in the house Confused

Thor, Crusher here.  That was a very silly thing to do.  Don't you know you are supposed to chew up the ball into tiny little pieces first and then scatter them all over the yard for your mom to find?  I did that once and my mom had to spend an hour trying to piece it all back together to make sure I didn't swallow any.  Its one thing to do something to make your mom worry about you, gets you more attention.  But honestly big guy, you're not supposed to do something that can really hurt you.  Good luck with your surgery tomorrow.  Should be good for some extra snuggle time anyway.
