New waterbowls

    New waterbowls

Ok, now this may not sound like a serious problem, but I don't know what to do.  Nigel doesn't like to drink out of a plastic bowl and that is what we have outside for the dogs, a metal one for inside and I don't want to have to keep moving the silly thing around.  Any ideas on how to get him to drink out of a plastic bowl/tub better?  He also is one of those guys that doesn't really drink throughout the day, just when I am in the room and then he remembers, "oh yeah, I'm thirsty" and then will drink gallons (ok, exageration, but a lot of water.)   Thanks!

Well, part of me wants to say "then he can be thirsty".  But, of course, that won't work if he's outside for long periods of time.

I'd guess you could try some beef broth or chicken broth added to the water to make it more tempting and then maybe he'd get the hang of it.

If it we're me, I'd probably just buy another stainless steel bowl.  They last forever anyway, right??

I agree w/ lori, Brando will not drink out of plastic ever, the stainless steel keeps the water cold longer.
God are our dogs spoiled or what?

I'd just get another stainless steel bowl for outside.

I would get another bowl for outside as well.  I don't know if this applies to dogs or not, but with my cats, I found last summer that they were getting this black stuff on their chins and found out it was bacteria or something from eating out of a plastic bowl.  I think stainless steel or ceramic maybe is suppossed to hold less bacteria.  As soon as I found that out, I got all the animals stainless steel water and food bowls.

Besides having a pan of water outside for the dogs, we also have 2 lap lickers in different parts of the yard.  You just hook them up to the faucet and show the dog how touching it makes water come out, and then they can get fresh water anytime they want it.  Ours will stand in line behind each other waiting their turn at the lap licker [:D].

I agree; 'nother bowl.  Plus, plastic releases chemicals like formaldehyde over time that will discolor dogs' noses and sometimes cause doggy acne.

I have three dogs, but about 9 or 10 stainless steel bowls and one large tub made, I do believe, for horses to drink from for outside.

I have to second the metal bowl for outside use.  If your dog is anything like mine the plastic bowls get chewed up and thrown around the backyard like a new toy.

Ok, that will teach me to post in the morning before class and not respond until I get home at night.  If just buying him another metal bowl would do the trick, no problem, guess what I forgot to add was that he won't hardly drink out of the metal bowl either outside.  It has the same amount of water in it when I get home as when I left in the morning.  So maybe adding some broth?
