A stray cat keeps hanging around my house

For the past couple of months this pretty orange cat keeps hanging around my house. I find him sleeping on my porch and walking around the house in general. This morning, when I was walking out to my car, there he was meowing at me. So I talked him up for a few mins and he talked back, kind of approaching me but I could tell he wasn't ready to be petted. It was FREEZING this morning (low 20s) so I figured I'd get some cat food out and leave it on the porch for him.  To my surprise, he followed me IN my house. For a split second I thought I'd lock him in the basement for the day but then he got spooked by my husky and ran back to the door (I let him back out). I brought him some food and left it out and he was eating when I left.

What am I going to do with this cat? He obviously likes something about my house as he keeps coming back. I really don't want another cat but I can't leave him out to freeze either. He doesn't look malnurished or anything....I wonder if he was the previous owners cat who just left him behind when she moved out...

I would guess probably a previous owners cat. The lady who owned our house before us was a hoarder so we have a lot of outdoor cats around us. I already have 3 cats and I really don't want anymore, but I do leave food out for these cats because I feel awful for them. I've also brought some of the more friendly males into the vet for a neuter. The last thing I need is kittens under my house and more outdoor cats to deal with, and I don't want them spraying around my house either. I told my vet that if she comes across anyone looking for barn cats to have them give me a call. I don't worry about them too much though because they seem content outside and they don't want in my house at all. They are good hunters too.

Maybe you could catch the cat and vet him if you can afford it? You could put up signs and try to find him a new home too if you don't want to keep him.
