OMG what is wrong with these people ... well, duh Callie, I know exactly what it is wrong with them -- too many things to count.  What a horrible thing ... and they are so good at hiding their ultimate 'goal'.  *sigh*

Folks -- that video is a real gut-churner.

Wow!  While I'm defintely for adoption and rescue... i think that goes too far. Way too far.

maybe I should put a little warning, it's not gross, but sad.

    • Gold Top Dog

     Ya, that's harsh.

On the up side, I think that anyone that knows anything about dogs and would indeed go to a responsible breeder, already knows about PETA.  So perhaps the people that were thinking about buying one of the Whichamakalitchickypoos out of the paper will think twice about it.  The only problem I really see with the messege is that its to vague.  The problem isn't breeders, its irresponsible breeders.  At least IMO.

I really do not like PETA and what they stand for.  We (my SO and I ) don't have our dog yet, but we are getting one from a breeder.  That video is just harsh.  Both my SO and I wanted a particular breed, but more important than that my SO wanted to go through a breeder becasue we will have our breeder as a resource for life (meaning phone calls for info, just to chat about the puppy, asking advice etc etc)...my SO has never had a dog before and he personally felt more comfortable going the breeder route the first time around.  I spent a couple of years researching breeds, and then breeders before selecting the one we are going with.

Yes, that means there is a dog in the shelter out there that won't go home with us...but that does not make us evil vile dog murdering people.  Or anyone else who wishes to go with a breeder.  I just ask that those who do go with a breeder to do their homework in what constitutes an ethical breeder.  I talked with one breeder before who rubbed me the wrong way...she started talking money right away!

I couldn't agree more.  I think the key here is the ETHICAL (or reputable) Breeder.  Going to a pet store is NOT the same as going with an ethical breeder.

Personally I love my pound puppies... but, sometimes you want to get a dog as a pup that you know will most likely be healthy full grown and you know what to expect. I don't think there is a problem with that.  But, again, the only way to do this responsibly is to go with a reputable breeder.

That commercial is just out of control, it blurs too many lines. And we all know that PETA is against pets in general, this is just a means to an end.

Isn't that a bit of an overkill?!  No pun intended!

You're right they are hiding their Ultimate Goal...there are so many different ways to show people the message of adoption, without it looking so morbid.  Why don't they show people adopting a lovable dog and how wonderful it can be to adopt, instead...they show this.  Instead of PETA spending money on these types of commercials, why aren't they donating the money to shelters so they can keep these dogs alive.
