    I feel like such an idiot

    I ordered new contact lenses thru a website cause they had the best prices. They came yesterday, so I put them in this morning (monovision type) and kept thinking something was wrong, but was in a hurry and left. I'm driving to work and can barely read large street signs and had a headache by the time I got here. I took them out and put my glasses on and then called my eye dr. Turns out that the company took my word on the order, even tho they say they'll contact the dr. for verification. Well, stupid me, apparently on the drop down menu for ordering there's a -1.25 and a +1.25. I had no idea and must've picked the 1st one I saw, which was the "-" not the "+". My dr.'s office had faxed back the company with the corrected perscription, but apparently the company only waits 8 hrs and said they didn't get it in time. I'm sooooo mad at myself for making the mistake in the 1st place, but I'm even more mad at myself for getting in such a hurry to file for the rebate that I pulled the box tops off and now can't return them Crying

    Oh,  man!! That does stink! Not to worry though - we all have our moments!! Wink I'm really surprised that they didn't wait for the doctor's OK to go ahead and fill the prescription. I would think that could be a potential law suit if someone had a similar situation to yours and ended up damaging their eye with the wrong sized lens or something.

    Well, I hope they weren't terribly expensive for your sake!!

    It was about $100 for the 4 boxes and I think I only ripped the box top off of 3, so I may be able to send one back. Customer Svc wasn't very helpful but I checked their website and it states that they require verification by either faxing your perscription or the Dr. responding to their inquiry, so I've sent an email asking why the exception was made in my case. It really is my own fault (I had no idea there was a minus type perscription) but I'm feeling some redirected aggression towards the company Stick out tongue

    I don't blame you one bit! I'm sure I'd be feeling the same way! They made a blunder too, so I don't think your redirected aggession is the slightest bit unreasonable! Wink

    Ugh, I'm sorry, that really sucks!!  Though at -1.25 I'd STILL not be able to see anything lol (I'm a -4.75 and I get .25 worse every year, bleh).  I'm soooooooo thankful my uncle is an eye doctor so he sells me lenses at cost.  Maybe they will let you return them and just be deducted a repackaging fee or something?

    What a bummer! Maybe the + is for far-sighted and the - is for near-sighted? I hope the company lets you return them. If they didn't verify the rx with the doc in your case, I wonder how often they make that mistake with others?

    I guess it is the difference between near and farsighted and had I known there even was a + and -, I'd have probably been more careful. I am farsighted, so that would make sense. I wear a +2.75 in my right (dominant) eye and the +1.25 in my left eye. I think the left eye correction gives me some minor help with distance, but I'm not sure. I can tell you that I was a verrryyyyy dangerous person to be on the rode driving this morning. Yikes!!! Embarrassed I wanted to take them out while I was driving, but I checked and my contact lense case was bone dry.

    Noooo Cathy! You aren't an idiot!! They should have checked with your dr's office FIRST and THEN filled your Rx! I think you should stay in contact with Customer Service because I've always heard if you complain enough... they WILL listen! A friend of mine has a family member that works with CS and she says if the customer complains, they get what they want. Hopefully you can get your money back AND get the right Rx! I know what you mean about feeling like a dangerous driver... if I take my glasses off, I'm totally useless!

    Thanks Missy. Not that the loss of the $$ is gonna kill me, but I'd sure rather have done something different with it than this. I wish I could at least give them away and I sure hope that the new ones I ordered from my Dr. come in soon. I haven't worn my reading glasses in a really long time and I think they're less than accurate, so reading is a struggle. In all honesty, if I hadn't thought they'd check with the Dr., I'd have waited to find my script at home and faxed it in.

    The worst part about driving in was that I was so befuddled by my vision that I kept trying to read signs and stuff and wasn't paying attention to important stuff, like the car stopped in front of me Stick out tongue

    I know it's not the $$ that bothers you... it's the fact that THEY didn't get it right and it irritates you that they didn't even check with your Dr! I couldn't help but giggle about you paying more attention to the signs than people in front of you... I do the same thing when I drive w/o my glasses. I forget that I don't have them on then in the middle of town, I think.. OMG, I can't SEE!! :) I sure hope you get your contacts SOON!!!

    lol... i once bought new lenses and when i put them in, i was feeling funny. and it didnt feel right. turns out i forgot to take out my old ones. lol...
