Luck of the Irish

    Luck of the Irish

Yes, I have some irish ancestry.

The guy I was working with briefly didn't have a lot of work but I've got money saved up for a month or so of bills.

I've got a job. I interviewed this morning with a company I worked for from 2001 to 2005. I won't go into a long history about the history. Anyway, pending the results from my UA, I will be starting no later than Monday. I know I will pass the UA (drug test) because I always study for that and it's true/false, usually.Wink

Now, I can take the savings and pay my property taxes (due Jan. 31) on time.

Anyway, my employer is giving me a fresh re-start since my lay-off in 2005 was under circumstances brought on by someone else. So, the past is the past and today is a new today. And I can handle that.

The job I will got to is about 25 minutes away (sweet!).

    Thanks guys.

I had such a good run there before and I should hope to have a good one again, considering that a number of problems have been cleared up and the owner is more directly involved. In fact, he's the one I interviewed with, as I did back in Jan 2001.

I'll be making a few dollars less an hour than I was at the most recent company but that's because at that other company, I was attached master. Here, I will work as a journeyman. That is, they don't "need" masters but that's fine, at least it's not an impediment to getting hired here like it can be elsewhere.

Yes, it is. And I think I have you to thank. In your thread, I hoped some of your luck would rub off on me and it did.

Maybe we can stretch it out to fit anyone with ancestry from the UK. Actually, my mother's father was from Germany. My father's side of the family was English, Irish, and Scottish. So, I'm good anywhere in the UK. I guess I could spare a little celtic coolness for you.

That's great!!!   Congratulations!!!   My fathers family is English, Irish and Scottish too.  I bet luck had nothing to do with it....might be your skills, yes?

Hey, my Davey was born/reared/lived in Dundee, Scotland (til he married me 10 years ago) and his Mum was from Donegal, Ireland.  so ... we've got that all covered.

I'm mostly "wasp" with about a fifth of Scotch ... er ... (sorry, old family joke) ... but I'll send you any luck (or whatever) I can.  but I'm thrilled at your news!!!  It really says something about you when you can go back to a former employer have them think well of you and have you think well of them and find a working relationship.  That speaks integrity to me, my friend!!!!

He started out as an electrician in the 70's. And he's worked his way up, attaining skills at each level. What I value most about him is integrity. His doesn't kiss butt, which is something I can identify with. Most of my experience, including my supervisory experience is based on actually knowing the trade. Amongst the working guys kissing butt is a grievious sin. Kissing butt is used mostly by people who have no skills or limited knowledge. If you can't bend a 4-point saddle (2 back-to-back offsets) then you ain't so hot. I can bend a 4-pointer without measuring but I don't hold people up to that. But we've all seen our share of butt-kissers mess things up for others because their chance at leadership was disasterous. It takes more to lead a crew than just attitude. You got to have knowledge.

Well, this employer doesn't kiss butt, which is not the same thing as taking good care of a client.
