Is it so wrong to have a desire to re-home a dog?

I'm not sure you should even own one dog.

    my sentiments as well.

Jean, he has been on flea/heartworm preventative Revolution.  He is currently due for his yearly HW test/vaccs.  I'm really sorry, I just don't have $400 to spend on flying him out to Alaska.  If all these posters are really serious about you having Ty, I will go ahead and get his yearly exam done.

I looked into the Aussie rescues.  DH and I had a serious heart to heart, and he agreed that we can keep him a little bit longer.  I am, however, willing to send him to Alaska if the finances can work out.  I don't want to seem like a deadbeat, but I can't afford the costs to send him, so if people are willing to send donations your way, I will get him to the airport.

That's kind of where I'm at.  I've been doing 3 training sessions per day, really working on his listening skills.  I took him on a walk with the old man and my 4 year old son today.  He's a 50 lb dog, and my 4 year old walks him all by his self, amazing really.  Ty is in no immediate danger of going anywhere, but as I said; if the costs to fly him out to you can be arranged, I'll make sure all the immunizations are in order ASAP.

That's great! I am sure with the extra time you are putting into him that he'll be a great dog. I hope you can turn it around with the DH. I can tell you are still conflicted about it. Tell him it means something to you, that you would appreciate his cooperation and support.

I don't think you are a deadbeat any more than I am. I don't have an extra $400 just hanging around, either. I'm glad to hear he's been on heartworm treatment. I hope you'll get his annual exam, regardless.

I let a husband dictate what to do with a dog I loved just ONCE. I'll never, ever do that again! I still miss my bloodhound and wish that I hadn't let him go. This guy abandoned me and my son, not too long after that and I had to divorce him. He was jealous of my dog, and made me get rid of him. I should have gotten rid of DH, not the dog. [:@]

I am so glad you have decided to work with Ty a little longer. Aussies are so easy to train - smart, smart dogs! Remember he is still really just a pup. My Aussie is 4 now and is the calmest laid back dog there is. Good Luck!

I'll make a donation.  I don't understand how to use paypal, but I can write a check and pop it in the mail.  Just let us know the details. [:)] And yes ... a whole new thread would be a great idea. It would put the focus where it belongs ... how to get the pupper to Jean.

    You guys are SUPER!

I think she's going to hang onto Ty for the time being. But.....if I might be so bold.....I keep finding these elkhound rescues that I can't get unless they are flown up. Would anyone be up for helping me do that? There are people on the elkhound list who might help, too. There are tons of elkies in the NE, and NONE in Alaska.

Your situation is a hard spot to be in. It seems like you are trying to find someone to ease your conscience about this decision. It really isn't necessary. The fact that you are bothered about the feelings or lack thereof for that guy shows you are a responsible pet owner. If you knew the dog was probably just as unhappy with the home atmosphere, would it make a difference? That dog can sense the difference in the feelings you think your family has toward him, no matter how well you think you hide it. Find him a place where he's a cherished family member and you'll have done the right thing.

I am by no means rich either but I would definitely commit to sending some money to get the dog to Jean.  I will follow this post to see what is going on.
