    Doggie Perfume....WHo uses it?

Do any of you use doggie perfume?  I love the way my dogs smell straight from the groomers.  I would like to get those results minus the $85.00 fee.  Do you have a good dog perfume or something of that sort that you recommend?  I really don't think my dogs smell bad but sometimes when they have spent a lot of time outside playing...they smell like outside.  Even worse when it's been raining.  Is there a quick cure for a freshen up without a groomer visit or bathing them myself?

I have a few I use occasionally :) I have the happytails brand dry dog instant clean and furbreeze spa mist. They both smell yummy. To be totally frivilous, I have dog cologne called Hot dog fruits and passion (smells like marc jacobs for men). We only bust out that for special occasions!

Waterless shampoo and a good brushing works pretty well for doggie leaving day care. Baby wipes are OK too but I don't like their scent, so I don't use them. At work we use Tropiclean's line (http://www.tropiclean.net/tropiclean_page.html) and I really like it.

I like the way Kenya smells, lol.  We've never really had an odor problem.  I have use Miracle Coat spray on coat conditioner in the past and I like the smell of it.  She is SUPER sensitive to smells so I cannot put anything on her that's not odorless or a natural/non-offensive smell (nothing I like, like fruit, oatmeal, vanilla, flowers, etc).

Oh...thats great.  I'll check out all of those.  Thanks so much.

I got a super nice smelling Made in Paris Dog Perfume for my babies =>

but have not used it as yet, I don't know how they will react on the perfume applied on them, but I just couldn't pass it by when i saw it in the department store Smile  It says on the box not to spray it directly on a dog, but to spray it on your hands, rub them together, and then rub hands on the dogs fur, or the alternatively spray it on the brush and brush the dog with it. I was going to post question here, wanted to know if someone else using the dog perfume. Not that my dogs need any, I looooove the way they smell, but I'm still getting ready to try my purchase - it smells just awesome Big Smile

ugh. Isn't that, like, torture for a dog? with their super-sensitive noses and dislike of the flowery type smells humans prefer?

Well, one thing about this forum, I learn something new everyday.  I didn't realize they even had doggie perfume.  I figured it was just the shampoo or something they used at the groomers.  I remember though, when I was younger our dog would go to the groomers and he DID smell really good, and it lasted a good while.  The woman also, used to paint (his) nails.  LOL  Before I actually got Misty on Advantix my husband had gone to the pet store and brought home Hartz, flea applications.  I used to get compliments all the time that Misty smelled good.  And she did!  The Hartz, smelled similar to a baby powder smell, but better.  That's the only thing I miss from the Hartz, is the smell.  I'd like to smell the stuff before I buy it, though.  I'm not big on overbearing smells, I like sweet, light smells, for myself, especially.  But, interesting thread.  I too will have to check out these sites.

I'm going to say my 2 cents AND echo what Mudpuppy says -- folks, remember this IS A DOG.

Not as in "it's only a dog" -- noooooooooooooo -- folks a dog's nose is SO much more sensitive and specialized than ours is - please have a heart!!  What you think is 'nice' may deaden his scenting abilities and may not be so pleasant to him and what can he do about it?

The next thing I'll mention is about "scent" period.  We live in a marketing generation and we've all been led to believe that scents are GREAT and wonderful and EVERYONE loves them.

Wrong.  I have asthma and plug in air fresheners and even spray stuff like Lysol can literally send me into a major asthma attack. Some of you undoubtedly carry perfume with you to 'refresh' it during the day.  I walk outside into a cloud of smoke from the smokers standing near the door and inside I have to hope that the elevator I catch doesn't still 'cling' with the last woman's perfume.

*sigh*  No, I don't expect the world to pander to me ... but a lot of the world doesn't *like* heavy scents.  So ... if it's difficult for people, just imagine what it must do to your dog's Jacobsen's Organ.

Gee ... what's a Jacobsen's Organ?? If you don't know -- please find out before you put perfume on them.

Not trying to be nasty -- it's just such a commonly held belief these days that everything's gotta "smell pretty".  Personally I just plain love the smell of MY dogs.  It's unique.  It's them.

I rarely use perfumes on my dogs. It all seems so strong smelling. But I do run a scented dryer sheet over them from time to time. It leaves a nice soft scent. I once saw a Sandra Bullock movie where she said she loved the smell of her dogs feet pads, so I had to try it. It really is a nice smellStick out tongue

Yeah, that's exactly why I still haven't used the Perfume as yet, because it smells nice as an people-vise nice, the way we like it, but I'm so not sure if they would. Like i said I just couldn't pass by it at the department store, although my husband called me nuts, when i brought it home. My dogs smell awesome and sweet on their own (a la Naturale), and I do love the way their feet smell :), I just liked the presentation of that perfume, if you'll check that link you'll see why i liked it :). Sooooo maybe I'll get my husband to use it instead.Stick out tongue LOL  (j/k)   So I just have it standing on my dresser with my own perfume collection, and the bottle looks very cute, it has a leash, and a gold dog tag on it.

Oh lets not be silly guys, no one puts this stuff on their dog because they don't like the way their dog smells, just like you don't put make-up on because you don't like the way your face looks without it. If there was any evidence my dogs didn't like it, I wouldn't do it. In fact they seem to like the rubbing in process ;) Most of them are dry baths anyways. Just because they have more sensitive noses doesn't mean that it is aversive to them. Sure Otto likes the way rotten meat smells, but he also likes the way the fresh laundry smells and drags it all into his crate if I let him.

um, I thought that WAS why people put on make-up?   I like the way my dogs smell- the frito feet, the slight wood-smoke smell to the fur (and we don't bathe dogs here more often than twice a year).  I personally hate perfume on people and can't imagine why one would ever want to put it on a dog.

That's fine, but the thread is about who uses it right? Not why you don't or how you can't imagine why anyone would use it.

I don't plan to bathe my dog in it but I do like her to smell fresh when she starts to smell like a wet dog when she's been outside playing in the rain. Sampson doesn't get that smell from being outside, maybe because he has short hair where Maggie has thick longer hair.  I don't know.  I don't see the problem with a little freshen up.  If she has a reaction to it, then i'll try something else.

    Thanks again for the suggestions
