    Getting stoked (banditxx99)

As some of you may have noticed, I look forward to winter! Why? SKIING, of course! Near the end of the year, when I'm done skiing, believe me I'm so ready for spring.. but leading up to winter, I get pretty antsy anticipating the start of another season.

I spent some time editing some shots of the trip to Utah I took in 2007.  It's 8 minutes long, but it moves pretty quick. If anyone would like to check it out, here's the link:

Tell me what you think, and lets hear from the rest of you who like winter! And if you don't like winter, I forgive you!

Pretty good video! You did a good job keeping the pace up with the music.

I'm getting antsy for some real snow too. I want at least a foot to drop one of these days!

I am so tired this morning! I got a full 7.5 hours last night, so I don't know what my problem is, but for some reason I am dragging. I think I may be getting a cold. Boo!

I spent the weekend with Luna at a dog show. No exciting placements to report -- I am still learning how to be a conformation handler, and Luna is just getting experience in the ring at this point. She has a great time in the ring so that is what we wanted, but man is she a nut! It's clear I am going to have to clicker train every ounce of ring behavior. Not a bad thing, but sometimes I think it would be nice to have a pup that baits easily!

LOL I think you posted on the wrong thread. But winter can have that affect on people. Stick out tongue

haha! I was like what is she talking about?!

Nice job on the video and it almost looked like it'd be fun if I didn't know how COLD it must've been Wink

BF is leaving for Jackson Hole in two weeks to go skiing and he hasn't realized how cold he's gonna be. At least he's wearing bibs this time :)

I so hate bibs. I have a pair and cut off the bib part, I hated them so much. Now they are just regular ski pants with a super high waist line (lol I hate that too). I really need to get a new pair ;p

How exciting!  I've been to Jackson Hole two different years. Truley an amazing place. Tell him to take at least one day and take the short drive west over the range and ski at Grand Targhee.  They get over 500" of snow a year and is still one of those places the locals would rather remain a secret. The time I went we had WAIST DEEP snow and it was the #1 best ski experience I have EVER had. Tell him to check the forcast in the morning, and if there is any snowfall, head over. He'll thank me later.

I don't use a bib. I have the same black snow pants I've been using for years. They just come up to the waist and have a drawstring. Under those I simply wear a thermal pant. I wear one pair of SUPER thin ski socks. Upper body I typically wear a thermal, one t-shirt and my coat. The most important thing is a high quality pair of gloves. Any hat will do. Don't forget the goggles.

Skiing in the mountains is not typically as cold as you might imagine. Out of all the years I've been going, I've only truley been cold a half dozen times or so. In the video I made above, that trip to Alta was one of them. 0 degrees F at the base, and 30+ mph winds. We took the chair up, and immediately went inside for close to an hour to warm back up. The rest of the day was awesome though.

I'll let him know. He's pretty excited but he's only ever been snowboarding once, at Snowshoe WV. He INSISTED he didn't need snow pants and wore his old EMT pants (they're kind of waterproofy and pretty thick, but nothing compared to a good pair of snow pants!) and FROZE the whole time.

Can you recommend a good pair of gloves? I'd love to get him a pair as an early xmas gift if you can direct me to someplace online with pretty fast shipping!

I think REI has some really good ski gear and I totally agree with the importance of good gloves. I skied the 1st few times with cheapy gloves and the only thing worse than frozen hands and fingers is when they start to warm up - yikes!! I think that good socks are also important tho. I love North Face stuff but then again, the only thing I liked about skiing was the buying cute ski clothes Big Smile

My gloves are from Burton, and they are great. Make sure to get the kind that come up over the coat sleeve, are waterproof, not too bulky and are durable..

An example is here. Those are pretty expensive. But be prepared to spend a bit for good gloves (although probably not as much as those linked ones...)

By the way, when he's at Jackson Hole, tell him to check out Corbet's Couloir. Its to skiers left off the tram. Devil

    From wikipedia:

"Corbet's Couloir is an expert run located at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Currently rated #4 on the top fifty things for skiers to do before they die, it holds an international reputation amount expert skiers, and has been descibed as "America's scariest ski slope".["
