BF is leaving for Jackson Hole in two weeks to go skiing and he hasn't realized how cold he's gonna be. At least he's wearing bibs this time :)
How exciting! I've been to Jackson Hole two different years. Truley an amazing place. Tell him to take at least one day and take the short drive west over the range and ski at Grand Targhee. They get over 500" of snow a year and is still one of those places the locals would rather remain a secret. The time I went we had WAIST DEEP snow and it was the #1 best ski experience I have EVER had. Tell him to check the forcast in the morning, and if there is any snowfall, head over. He'll thank me later.
I don't use a bib. I have the same black snow pants I've been using for years. They just come up to the waist and have a drawstring. Under those I simply wear a thermal pant. I wear one pair of SUPER thin ski socks. Upper body I typically wear a thermal, one t-shirt and my coat. The most important thing is a high quality pair of gloves. Any hat will do. Don't forget the goggles.
Skiing in the mountains is not typically as cold as you might imagine. Out of all the years I've been going, I've only truley been cold a half dozen times or so. In the video I made above, that trip to Alta was one of them. 0 degrees F at the base, and 30+ mph winds. We took the chair up, and immediately went inside for close to an hour to warm back up. The rest of the day was awesome though.
