    Teenie ate xylitol, maybe

I was washing my mom's hair (she broke her armS this weekend), and not watching my dog. She got a pack of Stride gum. I don't know if there was any gum in it, or how much. I came out of the bathroom and found her in a chair, shredding the package. I gave her a teaspoon of peroxide, 15 minutes ago, and nothing has happened. I gave her another teaspoon just now, and still nothing.

I wonder if you can buy that stuff they put in the dog's eye to make it vomit? I wish she'd just puke her guts up so I can go to bed. She doesn't seem to be reacting to the xylitol that I can see. She's moving around, wanting to sit on my lap, etc. UGH. *whacks self with newspaper* Watch the dog, watch the dog, watch the dog.

That sucks, be careful not to go over 4 teaspoons!

    PUKE TEENIE!  PUKE!

I hope it's all ok.  I had this happen, i had 3 dogs puking...  ooh, the fun of that.

     Why not over 4 teaspoons?

If she hasn't puked or died in an hour, I'll call it a day and go to bed, I think. Of course, as soon as I potty and crate her, she'll be puking up her intestinal content, LOL.

I'm not sure, it's what Poison Control told me! lol But, I believe I've heard that peroxide in large quantities can be poisonous... but, I would think it would make them puke before you could poison them with it?

    Who knows.

And probably, once you shut the crate door, BARF.

Just puke Teeny, get it over with, you can't be feeling well!

     I found this;    http://www.i-pets.com/rdog3.html;

» You will be administering hydrogen peroxide (3%, available over the counter at any drug store -- NOT hair bleaching strength) by mouth, using a dose syringe. For larger dogs, a turkey baster is convenient. Give a small amount of food first (approximately double in volume to the amount of peroxide that you use, so there is something to bring along with the peroxide and stomach contents.

» Administer the recommended dose (see below) and if the animal has not vomited in 15 minutes, repeat the dose of peroxide (not the food). If, in another 15 minutes, vomiting still has not occured, repeat the dose only one more time. Make sure you inform your veterinarian if vomiting does not occur.

Dog's weight  Amount of hydrogen peroxide
     6 to 10 lbs.
1 tsp. (equiv to 5 cc or 5 ml)
11 to 20 lbs.  2 tsp. (equiv to 10 cc or 10 ml)
21 to 40 lbs.  1 Tbsp. (equiv to 3 tsp., 15 cc or 15 ml)
     41 to 60 lbs.  1½ Tbsp.
     61-100 lbs.  2 Tbsp.
     over 100 lbs.  2½-3 Tbsp.

I hope Teenie's okay; I'll be sending healing vibes.

AH, well, I was only giving her a half-dose. I was about to get up to give her more, but I looked down, and she was looking queasy. I had her ON the leash, and she still managed to nail the only rug in the room, LOL. On the bright side, that was the best smelling vomit I've ever cleaned up. She definitely ate a LOT of gum. I'm going to give her a slice of white bread, and be finished with her rotten butt. I'm exhausted!

Rah for Teenie (does happy dance). Good night Jennie. Smile

Jennie -- do you think you got all of it??  It throws them in to severe hypoglycemia and THEN will hurt the liver.  I'd give her some honkin big dose of milk thistle tonight.

    • Gold Top Dog

Milk thistle. I'll do that. When Em got xylitol, she had a violent, violent reaction almost immediately. Teenie didn't seem to react, at all. I almost thought there hadn't been any gum in the package. I think I got it all. There was a LOT of vomit, and the last of it only had a couple of shreds of paper (The first couple had wads of gum). She's had her peice of bread, and she's happy as a clam. I'll pull her out after Em finishes pottying and give her a milk thistle capsule. I'll keep her on it for a week or two. She can be special, with Emma.

Teenie!!! Don't you know that stuff ain't good for ya? Hope she pulls through quickly, sounds like you've had more than enough on your plate already!

Oh, wow I'm glad she's OK.  There is never a dull moment for you, is there??

    • Gold Top Dog

I haven't had a dull moment, this week, for sure, LOL. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were packed full of action (some good and some horrifying). I'm taking extra vit c and b vits to keep from getting sick. That kind of weekend is just what would have me catching the flu.

Teenie is her normal, obnoxious self, this morning, so I'm guessing we'll be fine. Today isn't allowed to bring any more drama.

No more drama! No more drama! vibes for you :)
