First off, a lot of folks here check further than just 'ask your vet' because often the vet sells what his/her reps tell them is popular and sale-able. (That's unfortunately very true, altho some folks may be totally incensed by that statement.)
Interceptor is generally considered the safest (least bad reactions) of all the commercial heartworm 'preventives'.
But honestly -- if you want the 'best' answer to your question, why don't you go specifically to a pom board?? Nothing against I-Dog, but if you want something geared ESPECIALLY to poms ask those who know them in and out, and particularly know the health related potential problems.
