Dog Insurance discussion - again

    Dog Insurance discussion - again

I know that this has been discussed more than a few times, but after my recent rash of animal issues I'm actually considering it. I have Neiko in a couple of sports - disc dogging and agility plus we hike a lot (off leash) and do a lot of trips to the dog park. No doubt he is going to end up injured someday. Since I am notoriously a bad saver of money, I want to look at the different insurance policies available.

So, please tell me about what you have and how its worked for you. Thanks!

I don't have pet insurance b/c the problem I was most worried about happening (hip dyslpasia) was genetic and not covered.  But I remember reading some other posts and someone had listed a website that was really good for comparing different companies (includeing customer rating and reviews) and you could request quotes from different companies there as well.  I don't remember the site tho....maybe it will get posted again.

Man I wish I'd found out about some of those companies months ago!  There were a few that covered genetic issues, but now that Mystic has been diagnosised it's pre-existing and not covered.

I have vpi pet insurance for my dog because he is always bashing around at 100 miles an hour and we are always hiking preserves (on and off leash), going to dog parks, ect ect. its about 25 bucks a month but it is so worth it. i have already used it for a few things and they re reimburse you fast.

I just saw on the tv that my car insurance company progressive has a new cost free thing that includes your pets in a car accident. Gonna check it out now and see more about it.

I recently heard about this Progressive thing. Very interesting they could get a lot of business because of it. I may check it out. I have pet insurance, but with people you can never have too much insurance. I too have VPI insurance on two of my dogs and I have been very happy with the company.

Good thread! I was just looking up the same thing!!!

I was wondering about coverage w/ bloat and hip problems for athena with her being a dane, I asked the vet and they didn't have any recomendations.

Just for the record I had progressive and LOVED them. They are the ONLY car insurance company who has ever LOWERED my rates!! They did it 3x in the 2 years I had them. Was just wondering the stipulations on the coverage w/ the crashes. The dog in the commercial has a seat belt on, wonder if they require that?
