how often do you encounter rude people

Today I had 2 encounters with some totally rude people, I wont get into the details  but, needless to say I was furious and it seems like every time I am out with my dog at a preserve, dog park, dog trail , I always run into "boneheads". Do any of you have any stories or run into irresponsible owners on a regular basis? I could probably list 5 or 6 incidents in the last week alone but I will leave it to someone else to startIndifferent

I can tell you a story about myself being a boneheaded owner today (I was caught not paying attention - luckily Neiko is instantly called off anything and the other dogs were friendly - they all got treats, including the other dogs). So in defense of boneheads like me, everyone has those moments when they fail to be the perfect dog owners. Sorry!

Depends on how we define "rude".  If someone says something dumb or reaches to pet my dogs without asking, I don't call that rude unless I gvie them an explanation and they still do it.  For example, one thing I get a lot is "oh that CANT be a purebred shepherd!  It's way to small!  My [insert distant relative here] had a shepherd and it was 120 lbs."  Usually, once I explain that Kenya IS purebred, has several of the most famous and successful working line shepherds in her pedigree, that she is a show champion herself , and that poorly bred GSDs are often way over sized (the working GSD is a medium sized dog), they get the picture.  To me, it's rude when they still insist they are right, even though they've never HAD a German Shepherd themselves.

That said, I don't encounter rudeness very often, but we don't go to dog parks.  We typically meet the same people on our walks.  Today, we had incidents with various loose dogs, but all of the owners are apologetic and polite.  Stupid, yes, but they know it's their fault and that our dogs are on 4ft. leashes.

Oh i know everyone makes mistakes, but  the incidents I have encountered are pretty blatent and rude, today I had a woman try to dictate to me where my dog should be in the off leash portion of the reserve, even though my dog and I were just playing ball and following the rules 100%, she tried to give me a few more of her 2 cents as well.  I have had gone to our local dog park and had a woman tell me to remove my dog because she didnt like the idea of her dog and mine playing. I could go on and on

When we were working with our behaviorist with our two younger boys, it truly amazed me how people would encourage their dogs to come up to mine, as well as parents alowing the children to RUN up to strange dogs.  My behaviorist told us that the world is full of "boneheads"!!  It was cool though, we were outside a Petsmart working with the pups to focus their attention on us, she would stop the people with dogs and kids to tell them our dogs were in training!!  Believe it or not, there were some people who took offense to this!!

I meet rude people regularly.  I consider people who rush the dachshunds to try to pet them rude.  People who believe that Bevo is dangerous, just because of his breed are both rude & ignorant.  I have actually had a man offer to put Bev "in his place" via the alpha roll at the dog park.

With that being said, there are many great dog people around here.  The good definitely outweighs the bad.

I haven't met too many rude people lately but if you want to talk about boneheads........................I could go on for a while.

The dog park we used to go to is full of rude people.  A women once felt the need to tell me that Snuffa was not a pure bred dog (well duh!, I could have told her that ) that was fine but then she proceeded to tell me how ugly he was Super Angry  I understand the urge to sway people away from designer dogs, but really... if you don't know the specifics of a situation its best to keep your mouth shut.  I told her, Snuffa is a well loved, well adjusted, happy, rescued MUTT, and I wouldn't have him any other way!

i totally agree, thats something that cooks me the most, when some owners try to "chime in" on what they think is best for my dog ect. I can take a lot of bullhockey but thats usually too much.

Thankfully I don't met to many boneheads. But I do met a lot of people who complement me on my beautiful "Great Dane" and when I tell them his a Catahoula they pretend to know what the heck I'm talking about.   It can be quite funny  because you can tell most of them are lying through their teeth.  So far I've only met two people who actually knew what he was and one had coon hounds and another had a pointer.

OMG!  Thank you! Kaf!!!  I've been wracking my brain trying to remember Snuffleuphagus!  I have a friend that has a Havanese that reminds me of a Snuffleuphagus & I could never remember the name.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I meet a lot of people who have a lot of ideas about chows and what they are all about.  I especially get aggravated when they are upset I'm walking Willow yet their dog is off leash which it isn't supposed to be.  As their dog runs up to mine, they are yelling, oh, he's friendly.  Great!  Willow's not, now what??  Whose fault is this that your dog is off leash??  Then when she growls they are all offended.  Well, again, who is not doing the right thing here?  But, it always ends up the "vicious" chow's fault.  They walk away muttering about how "those dogs" can't be trusted.

I have to say I don't ever meet rude people.  I don't go to dog parks though.  Most people I meet with my Swissy are all so curious and want to pet and touch him.  Men are probably the most ignorant I have to say, they have this thing about wanting to wrap their arms around his neck or pet him face on while rubbing his ears, even after I them not to do that he dosen't like it - their reply is always the same "I have a big dog, I know what I am doing.  Then when he growls at them they look at me like he has the problem!!   No one ever denies his pedigrie because most have never met a Greater Swiss before.  They are typically curious and ask lots of questions.
