    First Winter Photos

Wellp, it's officially cold.  I hate winter.  If you didn't already know, now you do.  However, yesterday I finally discovered the ONE good thing about winter: the dog poop freezes and it's really easy to pick up!  Anyway, the dogs LOVE this weather!  They can run around and be crazy without getting so hot.  I honestly giggle when I read about dogs wearing sweaters and living in California or southern states.  If I put anything on Kenya, she'd get too hot.  Same with Coke, although right now his butt and tail are still short from being shaved, but even with the snow and sub-freezing temps he doesn't seem bothered.

Our neighbor's pit bull, Caddy (he's quite hyper and pushy so Kenya always puffs up when he comes over but then she gets over it)

What beautiful pictures!  For some reason I always pictured your back yard as much smaller...don't know why.  The dogs really looked like they enjoyed themselves.

So.... Caddy...?  Is that the one that you were worried about before? The one who's owners were afraid of Kenya?  Are they coming around?

The yard is REALLY large.  In pics it doesn't look nearly as large (or from our windows), but when you are out there, it's quite a hike from the back door to the very back of the yard!  We also don't have fences, so some of those pics are facing other people's yards.  The pic of Kenya walking over snowy logs and the pic of her standing in a patch of grass are actually in our neighbor's yard.  They don't mow all the way back and leave these grassy areas with paths.  I never see them out there so I take my dogs back there sometimes.  The 8th pic down (with Kenya in the bottom left) is our duplex, we are on the right of the pic.  I was standing about two thirds to the back of the yard.  The last few pics are facing the nieghbor's hard to the south.  The 4th pic (Kenya running) shows the duplex to the north and their yard.

And as for Caddy....hmmm... I was going to mention an update, but didn't b/c there's really no improvement.  However, since you asked....the neighbors are still scared of Kenya.  One of the little boys comes over and likes to watch her do agility.  They are so dumb b/c they just open their doors and let Caddy out and then get all mad at him when he runs over to other dogs.  In that pic of Kenya standing in the grass, you can see that gray house which is 3 houses away from us and they have a bunch of little toy dogs that go out on a zip line.  Caddy will run all the way there if those dogs are out.  Honestly, I don't mind him coming over b/c I would MUCH rather have them play and get used to each other, especially while he's a puppy.  It's annoying though b/c the dad doesn't know anything about dogs and think everything is aggression.  He thinks they are "fighting" and once he even said "let them dogs beat up on him a bit and teach him a lesson!"  No matter how many times I say it, he doesn't see that they are just playing. And yeah, he's afraid of both of my dogs so I have to somehow manage Coke on his line, Kenya who usually runs away from Caddy and is scared of the neighbor, and catch Caddy, who does NOT want to be caught.  Usually, I call Kenya over to me, Caddy chases her, and then I can reach out and grab him.  Whenever this happens I don't say a thing to the guy and don't even look at him, just look at the ground and hand off his dog by the collar.  He doesn't even apologize so why should I waste my time trying to teach him about dogs?  I'd rather he just let Caddy out for a while and let me supervise their play b/c he makes Kenya really nervous.  She doesn't like strange men, especially ones that come onto her property and just stand there shouting.  Coke is fine with any dog and also likes people, but anytime he walks towards our neighbor the guy says "he's coming to bite me!"  He's just coming over to say hi!  DH said I should change my strategy and tell him that they ARE vicious and maybe he'd stop letting Caddy run around and stop marching into our yard yelling at the dogs.  I'm not a confrontational person and I'd rather just go about my own business.  Hopefully he will SEE the results of proper training and change his ways, but I really don't have time to help someone that can't even engage in polite, neighborly conversation (he's not rude to me, but he never says hi or thanks me for catching HIS dog in MY yard).

You take beautiful pictures!  Looks like Kenya and Coke really enjoy being outside in the snow!  My dogs, well, they get cold!
