As some of you know I have a Great Dane pup named Athena. Well we have now become informed that the person my mother bought her from she has puppy mill history, she has been banned from AKC, and she is falsifying paper work. When my mother got Athena she did think it was strange that when the lady went to get Athena it took her 15 minutes to get her to come to her. But she didn't think twice about it because when she called to ask about the puppy the lady said she was selling her because her daughter could no longer care for her. The asking price was $500 but said because my mother has a dane if she would have puppies she would put that to the amount and only sell her for $250. My mother agreed some what because she did want Zeus to have puppies. (We are not doing this now as we do not want to put the dog thru that and she is getting spayed on the 25th of this month.) Well she called the woman we got Athena from because she only gave us one page from the AKC papers. The lady then said she would mail them to her and when she received it the birthday was March 21, 2005 (Zeus' 1st birthday) instead of Athena's birthday, May 29, 2005. Then she noticed that Zeus's name is under the sire name with his AKC number and everything. Zeus has never sired a litter and his name is not like a usual AKC name so easy to recognize (Zeus Jorge). So after finding out this information i did some research on the person we got Athena from while my mother contacted AKC. I found this site [linkhttp://www.pet-abuse.com/cases/1357/CT/US/]http://www.pet-abuse.com/cases/1357/CT/US/[/link] and my mother found out from AKC that she had been banned in the past from abuse charges (she was using her daughters and her daughter's in laws names on the forms). My mother's dog is now flagged by AKC for having too many litters even though he has never had one. We did inform AKC after my mother spoke to Zeus's breeder who we did look into and is great with all the dog information. I was just wonder what else could be done if anything?

I don't blame you for being angry at this scam-artist who sold you Athena. If it doesn't cost you too much, I'd go after her in any legal way possible because she deserves it. But having said that, if I'm interpreting your post correctly, it sounds to me like Zeus probably shouldn't sire any litters anyway.

lease don't take offense to this, but the fact that your Mom was able to be swindled in the way that she was indicates that she needs a lot more knowledge about breeding before she gets involved in it. And even though you and your Mom feel like Zeus's breeder is great, the fact that she sold an intact dog without a spay/neuter contract to your mom, who is not an experienced breeder, indicates that Zeus's breeder is not such a great breeder after all. She may be a perfectly wonderful person, but not the kind of breeder who produces puppies who should in turn reproduce. I tried to word that as gently as possible, I'm certainly not trying to bad-mouth your mom, I hope you understand that.

I was not saying that she is a great over all breeder in my opinion maybe i worded it wrong i just was saying that she knows about the whole AKC better than my mom and i do. I mean is a great example of a great dane but in the past this breed lost a whole litter to parvo which could of been avoided. And no I think my mom has decided not to breed Zeus now. She has 4 dogs now and could not handle a whole litter of great danes. I have sat down and talked with her about getting him neutered but i dont know if she will. All of her other dogs are fixed but i think for some reason she wants to keep Zeus intact. And you did not offend me at all.

Whew, good. It's a lot easier talking directly to someone about something they did or didn't do than it is talking about something their Mom did...lol

As far as Athena's breeder goes, I'm not sure if you can do much to her, but it sure sounds like she committed fraud against you (by basically stealing Zeus's name and paperwork). It may be something you can take her to small claims court over, or possibly even press criminal charges against her. But that's just me pondering possibilities, I really have no idea if there's anything you can do.

She did forge my mom's name on the paper work where the sires owner has to sign we are just waiting for the papers to come from AKC. I just don't know if my mom could handle going thru the whole court thing now because she is pregnant. I did not know she gave the lady we got Athena from Zeus' AKC number but i told her never to do this again. Neither of us knew that people would do something like this, but I guess anyone will do something to get money. This was a while ago though we got Athena when she was 3 1/2 months old and she will be 1 next month. I don't know i'm just really pissed that someone could con people like this and use poor dogs as ways to do it. She does not care for them and is pretty much just abusing them.

I would absolutely press criminal charges. And who ever has gotten pups from this woman should be invited to join in. The fact that she is using a false stud tells me that the REAL stud has some major problems. AKC needs to know all about this, and the authorities need to stop her.

You can make her miserable with a small claims court case. It may not come to any thing (with respect to actually collecting a debt) but it will be an annoyance if nothing else.

We informed AKC after we received the second set of papers from her. The parents of the Athena were different on the original papers that we got with the her. We have yet to inform the authorities, but she has been arrested in the past that's why she is banned from AkC for animal abuse. But this person is so sneaky and money hungry that she uses her family members. We just don't know who to inform because we drove like 3 hours to pick her up so inform that city or ours or who?
