Does your vet call you to follow up ?

Does your vet call you to follow up ?

Prancer had her first appointment with a new vet on Wednesday (happens to be a TCVM vet).   The vet I had been using said it was a partially torn cruciate;  the new vet thinks its a luxating patella with some tendon issues.   Prancer had acupuncture and is now also one a bunch of herbs and supplements (glycoflex III and Vit C along with the Wild Salmon Oil and Vit E she had been on all along).

They just called me because "the weekend is coming and they wanted to check in and see how she's doing, and answer any questions I might have".   I've never had a vet call me back to "just check" before.   Now it could be because the vet I had been using prior to this isn't "that good" --- or it could be because the new vet is just terrific.

Do your vets call you to "check in" ?   Should I be impressed or is this "normal" ??

Mine never have, but I've never gone in for anything that wasn't routine.  Kenya had a problem with her foot that the vet believed he solved.  He asked me to call him right away if she did not improve and he would investigate further, but the piece of plant material her removed from her pad and the injection he gave her must have worked b/c the problem stopped.

I do get little cards from the vet to remind me who needs a shot.

I just got a new vet,  I had to take my little tzu in...And two days later I got a call asking how she was doing...My old vet never did this..I thought it was really nice

My vet called after the boys were neutered to check on them and see if we had any problems, but they don't call after more minor stuff. When Muffin cut her paw pad they didn't call. I do think the vet I use is outstanding, I'm very pleased with them.

My vet doesn't because he's WAY too busy for that! But he will ask me to call HIM in a day or two to let him know how the animal is doing.

mine usually does if there was something major wrong (they also called after morgan got spayed). sometimes it's one of the receptionists, sometimes it's the vet herself. she's pretty busy, but she sets aside time to do follow-up calls, usually around closing time. i once got a call from her later in the evening, from a number i didn't recognize -- i think she might have called me from her home. if for some reason one of the other vets at the clinic treats my dog, that vet will call.

Very interesting.  Sounds to me like you just have an awesome vet! Big Smile I don't think Riley's vet does that, but my surgeon and orthodontist (sp?) both do that for me.  Riley's vet does, however, send cute little postcards and things to remind us of any vaccinations or tests he needs done.  I've actually never met Riley's vet.  My mom always takes him in while I'm at school or someplace.

Yep both vets that I have had in this area have called to check on my animals. That, to me, is the sign of a really good vet. One of the Dr's even gave me his home phone just in case I needed him when Dakota was sick over a long weekend.

My Vet will call and check up if they were in for an injury or illiness or for those times I had to call him due to problems even though they weren't taken in.

My vet called with Cherokee's bloodwork results and during that phonecall, made sure she'd calmed down and gone back to normal behavior since our awful visit..plus asked if she'd been coughing more, since I mentioned she coughed every once in a while... I doubt she would have called had we not done bloodwork (though who knows), but it was nice that she asked about her other issues during the phone call.

The actual vet doesn't call but someone from her office has always called the next day or two after we have come in for a visit whether it be for routine shots or b/c someone is sick just to see how the patient is doing.  I have many times expressed my concerns then and they have put my worries to rest...or I have asked follow up questions that I forgot to ask when I was there or came up with since leaving.

We always get a call from someone at the office (not the vet himself) to check on animals that have been in for some problem, or surgery.

The vet that I used to use (in Chicago) for my rabbits would call twice after one of them came in for something.  It was wonderful to feel like the vet was genuinely interested in how my buns were doing.  My current vet (for Honor and the buns) will call if they are treated for something non-routine.

My vet calls after almost every appointment just to follow up. It's a tech calling, not my vet herself, and she doesn't call after things like routine vaccinations, annual physical, or anything like that. But even if it's me just bringing Rascal in to go, "Hey, is this lump supposed to be there?" and the answer is, "Yeah, no problem" they'll still call me 1-2 days later to make sure everything is okay.

I <3 my California vet. Very sad I'm moving!

Mine always calls me. She emails me too. Seems normal to me.
