    Dog Parks

My interest is in dog parks.  I am very happy I rescued a dog that loves the park and lots of dogs.  We go at least once a week to the local fenced dog park.  She has a great time with the other dogs.  So last year I started thinking about how to find all the dog parks in my area.  I use to live in a large metropolitan area in Santa Clara county, CA.  The dog parks were hard to find and mostly could be found by word of mouth.  They have a tendency to close parks for renovations and re-open other parks without much notice.  I started listing the dog parks in the area and found about 20.  It was hard since the city pages were not up to date and then some of the parks fell within county or state jurisdiction.  So I started a site with interactive maps to find the dog parks.  I have found this very interesting to do internet research and find all the dog parks across the country.  I have hundreds listed now and am continuing to work on listing more as my homework permits.  I really like it when others tell me about a new dog park or submit pictures of their dog park or dog playing. At one of our local parks people have been setting up lawn chairs on the weekend and it has become a real community gathering place.   Paradise

do you cover san mateo county? like shore dogs and all the others? what about hiking places that allow dogs that feature off leash areas?

I actually live near San Mateo so I have covered all the off leash parks I could find.  I tried to include some of the off leash hiking place but did not find too many.  If you know of any let me know.  So far I have stuck to just off leash places.  Also, does anyone know how I can get my dog pic to show up?  I uploaded into my preferences already.  Thanks.

sadly i live in the Hemet/San Jacinto, Riverside county California area and the closes thing we have to a dog park here is Valleywide which is dog friendly but all dogs must stay on leash and there is no fenced in play area. the closest park i think of to here is about an hour away and i havent even been there due to the drive. the real downer to this is are town officals have talked about a dog park and everyone agrees we need one but no one will fork over the money for land for it. i mean even at valleywide there is a horse shoe court no one uses that why could just fence in and take out the pulls and put in some grass maybe a bench or two and i think that would do but again no one wants to frunt the money or land sad really. anyways good luck

I'm so jealous!  They only very recently approved dog parks in DC and the regulations involved in getting one started is tough, so it will be a little while until we have any official ones up and running.  We're working on it though!

There are a lot of nice parks in Montgomery County Maryland that probably wouldn't be too far from DC.

hmm... I posted a link to the park Casey and I go to back when this tread was started - but it's not listed on the map.... Huh?
