    Best Invisible Fence

Our subdivision does not permit fences so I'm considering installing an underground system and was wondering what the current thought was on the best brand.  I've been reading about Petsafe and Innotek but have no experience with either.  We have a small Cairn who get's the 5 minutes in her and she's gone regardless of how we've tried to train her.  I've read the prior posts and understand the issues, if I could put in a physical fence I would but cant.

Appreciate any comments on what to look for feature wise and if you have any postive or negative expreience with any of the current systems.

    Thanks

We use the Pet Safe Instant Wireless Fence.  There is no buried wire.  It works on radio frequency.

The big plus is that it is completely portable.  We took it down to a rented beach house last month and it was wonderful.  We also bring the system with us to our little cabin in Michigan.  It can also be used from a vehicle, rv, suv etc.  Any place that you have an electric hook up.  The dog can't "run through" the edge like a wired fence because once the dog leaves the radio frequency field, it will get pulsed for 30 seconds or until it returns to the field.  You can adjust the zap from a tingle to a pretty strong pulse - not strong enough for a really resistant dog, though.  There is a warning beep that gets faster as you approach the edge.  My girls never get zapped.  I have two very active bird dogs.  They have receiver collars for the little guys, too.  My friend has a Maltese and uses one.

The only con is that it will send out it's radio wave only in a circular pattern.  You can adjust the size of the circle, but not the shape.   It also doesn't keep critters out of your yard, but then you won't want to leave your dogs unattended all day in the yard anyway.

It works for us.  We love it.  [:)]

I have a Petsafe invisible fence (wire)  and have great success. I have a cocker, and he broke through with the little collar, so I got the large/stubborn breed collar and he wont even walk outside the area without the collar on now.

I have this brand, works great, actually invisible fence bought pet safe fence brand. They are sticking with the invisible fence equipment because it is a better brand.

we were in the same situation, being no fences allowed (ours can go over a 4 footer any way).  Our dog was young so we waited until we thought he would 'get it' (put it in when he was about 11 months old) but we had to do lots and lots of training.  He didn't like the 'buzz' but he liked rabbits, the neighbor's dog and deer more [sm=sad.gif]
We put in the Innotek 4100 and it is fantastic.  He doesn't go near his boundaries now and LOVES to be outside.  He sees the collar as freedom, no question about it.  We come back from our walk and I remove his harness, he waits for his collar to be put on and then he's off running for a ball or just running
Most of the time he has no awareness whether his collar is on or not, he knows his boundaries and stays in them.
I was very nervous that his stubborness and prey drive would render the 'fence' useless but once he got it he loved it.

My dogs, too, see the e-collars as symbols of a good time outside!  I have the Innotek remote trainer, too, for when we are on the beach or walking off lead and when I bring the collars out they are really excited and happy because they know the're going to the beach or to the field. [:D]
