RED SOX!!!

"All the announcers kept ragging on about how Curt Shilling isn't the same pitcher that he used to be. "

You know it does sound terrible, but we were laughing about it because it is a kind of a Boston thing. We have been doing it, and to hear yourself just is funny.  They are doing a great job and all we do is complain about the one thing they did wrong or not exactly the very best!  While Cleveland was wagging those darn tshirts, at every tiny thing, we are complaining about little crap about our own team who beat the pants off of them!

    • Gold Top Dog

We've spent a lot of time in Boston.  We used to even make day trips down from Portland to take the kids to the childrens museum.  You're right, there is a lot of really cool stuff in Boston.  Wouldn't want to live there again......Taxachusetts and all....and the closest we ever did live was the Cape.  Wouldn't mind being there for the parade tho.....that'll rock!

    • Gold Top Dog

You are sure right about Taxachussetts.  We have more interesting methods of draining money out of the taxpayers than anyone.  We will be having another Teaparty if they keep it going on this way. Course now Wampanoag are going to get casinos, and guess the governor is pretty on board with it...great way to get revenues ( to support a big fat bureaucracy Oink)

What part of the Cape were you at?  Go to Christmas Tree Shops?  Beaches are absolutely fantastic...just about everywhere.

    • Gold Top Dog

We were in Falmouth.  And of course the Christmas Tree Shops.  They have one in Portland now that we go to when we visit MIL in ME.  And how could I forget to mention Brighams??  No trip to Boston was ever complete without a stop for a hot fudge sundae!

    • Gold Top Dog

Boston, you know I love you madly!!!

TWO world series in ONE of my lifetimes??  Unbelievable!!!!!

***silent confession:  i was hoping for 7 games... does that make me a bad person?****

if anyone goes to the parades, PLEASE post some pics... I went to the one in '04 in Portland; it was good times.

Man, how I miss the East Coast...

p.s.   remember when I had Pap as my avatar???

***silent confession:  i was hoping for 7 games... does that make me a bad person?****

Clearly YOU weren't eating the ritual hot dogs every game nite to be sure they won.  Yeah, I miss the  East Coast a bit myself.  And, who could forget Pat in your avatar?  Never a Red Sox fan.......

What?  No one else loves Brighams?

    • Gold Top Dog

LOL ok 7 games of ritual hot dogs might have been a bit much... my rituals are a bit more geared toward 7 games:  first drink of the night is a "curse reverser" and I wear my special "war hat"- camo Sox hat purchased at Fenway the night the clinched the '03 playoff spot....  The ONLY time I break that hat out is when the situation is DIRE, such as when we were down 3-1 to the Indians... I TELL YOU, IT WORKS!  That hat won us the '04 world series!!

And I'm trying to remember Brighams, but all I can think of is BYU... a little help??

    • Gold Top Dog

I'm probably spelling it wrong....think worlds best HOT FUDGE sauce?  Gosh, they used to be all over the Boston area...an institution of DH's youth......they were even selling the sauce in the Hannaford chain.

    • Gold Top Dog

My Mom always took us to Brigham's on our annual shopping trip to Filene's basement...yummmm.  But there was another ice cream place which I can't remember the name of, which made humongous banana splits with their homemade ice cream and fresh fruit.  It wasn't in Boston...more NW.

7 games? I would be dead of exhaustion after 7 games. But the real question is would I die happy??? LOL.

Go SOX!!! and yes, PAP rocks!

BTW Anyone else want to shake the stuffing out of the nimrods who schedule these games at 8:30 at night????

    Angry What about the kids?!!!

8:30 is past bedtime or at bedtime for many kids---which means most kids can see an inning or two and they're off to bed. Have it start at 7:30 during the week and the adults can hurry home from work---even on the West Coast. On the weekends why not have an afternoon game?

Yeah I know why they have them in prime time $$$$$$$$ but it stinks.

So I record the series for the 3 boys and now I get to enjoy answering some interesting questions about the commercials for erectile dysfunction. Angry

So now I'm off to see if I can pre-order the DVD about the ACLS and the World Series so the kids can watch the highlights at Christmas.

SARA---have you ordered your RED SOX World Champs t-shirt and hat yet???

No way...afternoon on the weekends is dedicated to football. NCAA on Saturday and NFL on Sunday. It's ever been thus...and that's the way it should be.

Seriously tho, that is why. Networks try not to step on one another's toes when it comes to competing...rarely is NCAA played on Monday nights...and the NFL did not show their customary late night game last night like usual, due to the game. Now I don't understand not showing FB when BB is on...BB is so slow you can flip back and forth and not miss anything really...they should have shown the FB game anyways, IMO.

    • Gold Top Dog

"Competing?" Gina, you have such a diplomatic way with words. LOL  You're right, they're in it for the bucks and they were afraid that having the series during football would cut into revenue. Blech. Still, games of the ALCS and NLCS were played when football was on tv. Their wallets would have survived.

If only they had gone to five games Devil  they would have played tonight and it is Broncos  vs. Packers on Monday Night Football. ROFL

As for flipping from baseball to football....maybe I could flip from BB to something else, but flip away from football?  I thought your earlier comments about the Sox were sacrilegious, but suggesting we flip away from the Patriots during a game? Now that's blasphemy. Wink even if they are up by 30 or 40 points.

PS Did they have an NFL game scheduled for 8pm? I thought they didn't because of the game in England...wouldn't surpise me since The NFL already changes game times around to increase tv viewership and ad revenues after week 11. Last year we had tickets to a Sunday afternoon game that was on the short list to be pushed to 8 pm. We sweated it out afraid that we would be getting the kids home at 1 am. Thankfully they didn't switch it.

    • Gold Top Dog

Polar everyone knows you flip during commercials, silly. FB has enough of them...tons actually...esp if they are scoring a lot. We have Sunday Ticket so I am usually watching 2-4 FB games at once anyhow during commercials. When they start sync'ing commercials now...that's annoying! I have to mind my FFB guys and make sure they are pulling their weight.

I don't think they scheduled one....

Earlier this year...first weekend of NFL they had a Monday Night double header which I think was in anticipation of some scheduling conflicts, either with London or the WS. They have those things figured years in advance I think for all possible eventualities.

I should take over 1st overall in my FF league this week...I have Brady, McNabb, Welker, B Edwards, K Winslow, Jones-Drew, Parker, K Curtis, etc so it's been a great year!

    • Gold Top Dog

I was just at the Brigham for lunch with hubby last week.  My favorite hamburg and fries are there, and yes the hot fudge sundaes are pretty good.  Anyone recall the special Red Sox sundae that they had in 04?  It was called ...break the curse, something more jingly!  I cant' remember.

It is so expensive to get tickets to Fenway anymore.  I was talking to someone who remembered taking the bus from Marblehead into town and saw it all for a buck. It can cost up to $100 just to park your car today.  But it is magical when you get in.  Err, once you get past the sting in your wallet!!

My cousin is one of those people who wanted it to last longer.   But it really is time to move onto the Patriots...after the parade that is... Anyone hear when it will be?  Got to listen to the news and find out.

    World Series Parade Plans

The city of Boston will celebrate the 2007 World Champion Red Sox with a "rolling rally" on Tuesday, Boston Mayor Tom Menino announced Monday.

The players will ride on World War II-era amphibious duck boats and will take the same route as the 2004 championship parade, except they won't go into the Charles River, Menino said.

The rally will begin at noon at Fenway Park and Lansdowne Street, circle Fenway Park, go up Boylston Street to Boston Common and end near City Hall.

There will be no stops along the way.

Menino did say that Red Sox closing pitcher Jonathan Papelbon has promised to do his now-famous dance routine at several locations along the route and joked that the length of the parade would be determined by how long Papelbon danced.

"He has to do a dance," Menino said. "He promised the people he would do a dance."

The Dropkick Murphys, whose song "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" is Papelbon's theme as he enters a game at Fenway, will also perform during the parade.

Large television screens will be set up at Copley Square, Boston Common and City Hall plaza.

Menino acknowledged having the celebration on a week day would inconvenience some businesses and keep school children away, but said players were eager to get home to their families and begin their vacation.

Menino also said a "rolling rally" was easier for city officials to manage, because it spread out the crowds. He estimated security would cost $500,000.
