Breed questionnaire

That was the third time I took a quiz like that and i got the same answer I always do, German shorthaired pointer.  I knew Abbi was perfect for me.

Wow, couldn't have been more wrong! lol My results from the UK quiz was a Mini Dachshund. [:o]Sorry, but for the most part they're yappy, scrappy, and just not for me.

Edited to add, the U.S. one was much better. My top 4 results were: Pekingese, English Toy Spaniel, Havanese, Japanese Chin. I like all of those except for the Havanese. Shih Tzu still aren't even on my top 10 though.

hmm. The UK one gave me "lab", and well, I just don't like them. The US one gave me Belgian malinois. I admire the breed tremendously, but really, should they be recommending breeds like malinois and border collies to the general public as a pet?????   I think not.

Keeshound and puli for me on the US quiz, They are both dogs I wouldn't mind owning but not really my first choice.

I pressed the back button and only changed "medium" sized dog to "large" and Bearded collie poped up as first choice[:D] I don't know if I would call them a Large dog but it's certainly the dog I want! secound was rough collie which is also one of my favorates. Infact the ten they listed for me are very close to dogs I would choose for myself.

One little change and a whole new selection pops up[8D]

EDIT: I don't get it, I read their description of the beardie and first thing it says is they are a "medium" size dog and yet they only poped up in the quiz when I changed my selection to "large"!

One of the breeds I got "selected" for me was the Lab Retriever.  I have nothing against these wonderful dogs, but I don't think their description was accurate.  It emphasised that the breed is one that will naturally guard and protect quite a few times.  I always thought of the breed as gregarious and definately not the breed to pick to defend your house unless you want burglars licked to death.  Am I wrong?

On the UK site I got one match....Airedale.  Not sure I agree with that one!

On teh US site I got an Afghan hound which I don't understand at all!  Then all the shepards/malinois breeds which I also don't get.  Not the energy level I put in for dog or people!  I also said I wanted a "giant" and got none of them!  Weird.

Just hope people really looking for a breed do more than those sites for their basis!

The UK one gave me Dalmatian....do I seem like a Dali person to you guys!?

The US one gave me (in order):

Aussie 91% - They were one of the first breeds I was considering

    Terv 89% - I still want one

Belgian Sheepdog 89% - Same as above xD

German Shepherd Dog 89% - Well...I've got two and I'm looking for three xD

    BC 88% (I think not o.o)

Golden 88% - No no no no no

    Irish Setter 87% - I used to want one...until I met a bunch xD

Bernese Mountain Dog 86% - Loooove them, but they don't live long enough and aren't versatile enough for me

    Akita 85% - A breed I LOVE, but I couldn't own

Curly Coated Retriever 85% - .........nooooooo

I'm surprised the Giant Schnauzer wasn't on there.  I want one xD

This is by far the best one I've ever come across: [linkhttp://www.glowdog.com/bestdog/]http://www.glowdog.com/bestdog/[/link]

I like it because it covers practical things as well as personality characteristics. What annoys me about a lot of these tests is that they find the breeds that will fit into your lifestyle, but not the ones that will gel with your personality. To me, I'm willing to make sacrifices on the lifestyle front for a dog that has just the kind of personality I'm looking for.

The other nice thing about the glowdog one is that you can rate the importance on each trait, and then tweak it to get just what you want.

Oh THAT'S the one I was talking about.  It's my favorite too.

EDIT: Okay, not that one exactly, but very very similar.

The UK one gave me...a BASSET hound??? I like them, but they are not my kind of dog.  They also mentioned a Shar Pei (maybe) or a Boxer (more my style).  The US one?  Am Staff and Staffy Bulls were #s 2 & 3! I would love to have a Staffy Bull as well as my beloved Am Staff.  Now, if I can only get DH to agree (like THAT is going to happen)...

    Glowdog said a BLOODHOUND??? Weird...

Bwahahaha!  I don't put much faith in this one.  My three choices?

Bassett Hound, then Shar Pei and Boxer.   Boxer, maybe, but the other two do not  fit me at all!

The UK site gave me Dalmation.  No offense to any Dal owners, but there is absolutely no way I would ever own a Dal.

The U.S. site gave in this order:
94% Greater swiss Mountain Dog- Don't know a lot about them so no comment
92% American Staffordshire Terrier- I could see this
89% Boxer- Have one currently, & I love her
89% Smooth Collie- Can't see it
89% Mastiff- Minus the drool, it could be a possibility
89% German Shorthair Pointer- I can see it
89% Rhodesian Ridgeback- I considered these before getting the Dobe
    88% American Foxhound- No
    88% Bull Terrier- No Way
    88% Doberman Pinscher- I have 2 currently & I love the breed.

    Glowdogs top 5
Newfoundland- To hot for them here
Bouvier de Flandres-  I actually like these, we have one that lives at the clinic
Irish Wolfhound- No thanks, nice dogs but not for me
Great Dane- I lkie them, but not sure that I would like them enough to own
Doberman Pinscher- Again, have these, & love these.

Labs on the US one and Springers on the UK one. Sorry but no thank you! :P I'm a herding dog gal, so it wasn't accurate at all for me. Admittedly, living in an apartment would mean I'd expect to see it match me with smaller dogs than my collie, but I was somewhat surprised NOT to get either of the corgi breeds. And there's a difference between 'high energy' (ie, needs to run and jump and move lots like the northern breeds) and needs a job but can be worn out by training (like many of the herding breeds and SOMe of the sporting breeds)
