    Question For Harness Users

Do you leave the harness on your dog all day so all you hafta do is attatch the leash and go....... or do you take it off and then put it back on every time you take your dog out?

Take it off and put it on. We only go for walks twice a day because we have a fenced-yard for between walk potties. Much of the time both dogs are completely nekkid, but they also have flat collars. Marlowe wears the harness (usually) but I also keep a flat collar with his ID on it on him when we leave the house.

I have an Easy Walk Harness and he only wears it when we go on walks or to really happy places where I need some extra help.  When we are done with our walks and he gets in the car I take it off right away.

Ace only wears his Easy Walk when we are on a leash walk.  I just keep it attached to the leash.  The rest of the time he either goes bare or wears his flat collar with his tags on it.

I always take the harness off. A few weeks ago we came back from our walk and there was company at the house. In my haste, I unhooked the leash but left the harness. While I was sitting visiting with my friend, Kobi was lying under the table licking and grooming himself as usual. When he stood up the leash fell off. Chewed right through it!

Take it off and put it on from here as well.

The same goes for collars in our home though. Our dogs never wear collars unless we are out of the home. In the home, all dogs are "au naturel", for safety reasons.

Slick only uses his with the dogwalker and she puts it on and takes it off..  I would not feel comfortable at all with him in a harness alone all day.

Wait, you said you took the leash off, do you mean he chewed through the harness?

Well this is why I asked.  I live in an apartment so she is stuck in here with me (I am with her all day every day) except for when I take her out but sometimes we go out frequently and this harness is a real pain to put on.  She seems pretty comfortable in it, so I was thinking about leaving it on during the day and taking it off at night.  She does wear a collar with tags at all times.

With her breed, she's probably prone to matting. A collar or harness worn all the time will encourage that, greatly. Unless you plan on keeping her clipped short, I'd not keep anything on all the time.

Oh no, her fur is naturally very short.  Its the pug in her.

I leave Cherokee's harness on all day, when I put it on (she doesn't wear it every day..she doesn't go anywhere every day. I know, bad bad bad..). I take it off at night (although I do forget once in a while), but not when we walk in the door. She's been wearing a harness the whole time I've had her (7 1/2 years), so she's quite used to it, and isn't going to chew it. I don't leave the Easy Walk on though. That comes off as soon as we're done with it.

I used to keep Aspen's harness on 24/7.  This was because I didn't have a fenced in yard & I would put the boys out on a tie out.  Since Aspen is a small dog hence a smaller bladder & need to go out more.  I'm too lazy to take it off & on several times a day.  Now that we have the fence it's all a moot point & I LOVE letting the boys out to RUN!!

I only use a harness when we go out except for Ruby (the Rocket) sometimes. I need to be able to grab her fast without choking her and sometimes if she's really being rowdy she gets tied by her leash to my chair. (She tends to be too rough with the little ones and sometimes pins them just for fun.)
