    male vs female

Question for other dog owners! We had a sweet little yorkipoo named Sadie who sadly was hit by a car at age 9. We swore we never would get another dog as loosing her was so traumatic. We really missed having a pet so after several months we got a maltipoo male named Cody. Sadie loved us both but when watching TV etc, she always cuddled by DH. Cody is glued to me and even when DH can coax him to sit next to him it is only for a few moments and then he has to be by my side. Is this a preference of male vs female ( ie the males prefer female companionship and vice versa) or just a trait of individual pets? I would get a female dog as my DH really misses the companionship. Any thoughts from other owners would be greatly appreciated, also breeds (small and non-shedding as DH has allergies!). Thank you!!![:)]

I don't know that it is a general rule.  We have both a male and a female.  The female is definately my dog and the male is so young that he just loves everyone.  He is not much into cuddling.  I think it depends on the dogs personality first and foremost and also the person who spends the most time with the dog.  That has been my experience anyway.

My experience has been the oppisite, My first dog, a male, seemed to like my dad the best.
Abbi, my current dog, is definately my dog, although she does like DH too.  I think with her it's a combination of 2 things.  Her last owner was a woman so she is probably more used to women, but more importantly, I am the on who walks her and pays more attention to her, plus I work much less hours than my husband works so I am just around more.

we have two dogs, one male and one female. in our experience, the male has bonded more with me, and the female with my wife. i dont think it is necessarily a gender issue though. we had two cats, both female, one bonded closely with me the other with my wife.

i think it depends on the pet, not necessarily the gender. is there a way to know which person the pet will bond with before you adopt? i dont know.

My male is MY dog, and our female just loves anyone that looks at her... or doesn't... or moves... or doesn't... or talks... or...

I think it depends entirely on the dog. Our male loves everyone, but is very attached to my Dad. Tango (female) is very attached to me, and Morgan (other female) is equally attached to my Mom and my Dad.
