What does Shaking means to a dog?

Can you stop a dog from shaking? My dog shakes a lot and he makes a mess with his hair everywhere? I put on a shirt now so that helps the dog hair falling out everywhere.

probably not, im assuming by shaking you mean the full body back and forth like they do when they are wet? that would be like asking someone not to stretch when they yawn, its only instinct and really isnt hurting them or you. if its just an issue of hair getting everywhere i would suggest brushing the dog more often.

If you are bathing the dog, you can keep him from shaking by keeping your hand on his back at all times. You could also put it on command so you have a little more control over when he does it -- like you could ask for him to shake outside before you head inside.

But you can't stop it altogether -- it's instinctive. I don't think you would want to stop it altogether, even if you could -- it's a really efficient method for the dog to dry himself, which helps keep him warm and get wetness off before it dries into mud.
