    Sickening case of horse killing....

This is happening on the border, not very far from me. Warning though, some very graphic photos. But they are needed to get the point across. We really need to do something about this....

That is sad.  How can people do something that cruel to any animal?  I cannot believe that people are willing to commit such awful acts.

That is just horrible and I could not read the whole story.  I have signed petitions to shut down these slaughterhouses and the only way we can get them to close these is to write our congressmen and sign petitions so spread the word that this kind of thing is going on and hopefully we can get it STOPPED.

Well the thing is that those letters worked. They no longer have slaughter houses here in the states so they are sending them into Mexico to have it done. So now, the thing we need to write out congressman about is to not allow people to transport these horses across the borders to places like this.

I sent an E-Mail to the senator of my state (Washington) and asked her what I needed to do to get a bill passed or to get her moving on this issue.  I told her that I couldn't even finish reading the story.  Tomorrow (Oct 16th) is National Call in Day for Horses to support a ban on horse slaughter and to urge our congressmen and women to sponsor S.311.  I feel that  this is an important matter and needs to be addressed.

A friend of mine sent that same clip to me just the otherday, I couldn't watch not 2 seconds of it. I was sick, I own 2 miniature horses and I always had big horses, I lost one of my horses two years ago, when he was struck by lightning I took that very hard. Just thinking how these people have NO hearts for these animals is so wrong. And how they are killing such beautiful animals. Makes me sad. (cry)  Horses always served us back in time as our transportation and pleasure, now they are being killed for meat. SICK SICK SICK. I'm becoming a vegetarian. This needs to stop, please sign the petition.

This is not going to endear me to many people, but I hope that you will see the logistics in this. Horse slaughter is a neccesary evil. There are to many "breeders" that don't know what they are doing, and breed horses that have no business being bred in the first place. When you take horse slaughter out completely you run into over population, which not only drops the prices down on good horses, but raises the prices on feed and hay. The BLM even sees this, as many people simply can no longer care for their horses and turn them out onto the mustangs land. People, I know it's not pretty, and I know that for many it is upsetting to watch, but there is no difference in killing horses, than there is cattle, chickens, fish, and sheep. They are all very neccesary, even if they aren't easy. We need to sit up and look around and realize that unless horse slaughter is allowed, we are all going to pay a very dear and very high price.

I actually agree with you, as do a good number of others in the equine world. Stopping all horse slaughter would be like stopping all euthanasia of pound animals. Where are they all going to go? Overrun the streets? In the woods? More poor dogs and cats running all over creation, dying slowly of starvation or cold in the streets, getting hit by cars, killing livestock and outdoor pets, etc etc. Humane euthanasia always needs to be an option in this unfortunate world of over-breeding - until the breeding stops, we need to have euthanasia. Obviusly we would like all out shelters to be no-kill, but right now this isn't a smart option.

I think the issue HERE was the METHOD of slaughter, which was cruel and inefficient.
