    Saw Ear

Holly is a 23 month old pugalier. I rescued her from a shelter almost a year ago. When we got her we noticed she had a slight irritation in her ear. I left it alone and kept my eye on it. After a few months it didn't go so I took her to the vet and the vet gave anti-biotics and that was it. Her ear was ok for a while but then got a little irritated again. I started to bathe it in epi-otic and salt water daily and after a while took her back the vet who gave anti-biotics again. Two weeks ago as I was brushing holly, i noticed her ear was a bit red again and have been keeping an eye on it. Today I noticed it has got quite a bit redder and she is itching it a bit. I started with the salt water and epi-otic but I dont know what else to do.

Someone suggested it might be a yeast infection but the person was in a rush and I didnt have time to ask how it would be dealt with. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

First, I wouldn't be "keeping an eye" on an ear.....I'd be getting that pup to the vet at the FIRST sign of an ear infection.  I've had dogs with major ear conditions and they flat don't get better without medical intervention.

I'd ask the vet to culture the ear....some infections are more resistent to the one size fits all antibiotics that vets tend to start with, and if it's yeast, you need a specific medication to fight YEAST.  Diet may play a role in this too.
