    I am soooo excited

I found out that for easter my mum, dad , sister, 3 dogs and I are going camping. I am so excited. Sasha has been camping beofre but my other two havn't. We are going on Saturday 15th quite late as dad doesnt finish work till about 7. When we arrive it will be dark. We are leaving monday morning at about 6am. But still its a trip! My mum and dads friends are coming too. They have a 6 month old german shepherd x border collie and a 12 yr old blue heeler. The dogs will love it. I am so so excited. Now just a few questions.....

    1. when we arrive in the dark, how should I go about introducing the dogs to the environment? They have met the other 2 before and they all get along, but i'm a bit worried about the new place

    2. We (my sister, I and 3 dogs) will be sharing one tent. Obviously the dogs will be invited on the matress with us but should I make them come under the covers? I'm in perth western australia. Its about 25 celcius in the day and about 10 - 15 of a night (i think this is freezing!)

    3. Any other tips?

    Thanks so much

    Hayley,
When we go camping I usually let the dogs decide where they want to sleep, but ALWAYS inside the tent with me.  (We go camping in the mountains of Colorado a lot and there are coyote, racoons and skunk that will come down into camp, and a lot of other stuff that usually will be around but won't come into camp.)  I bring their sleeping blankets and put them on the ground next to my sleeping bag.  Have you ever tried to sleep between a dog and another person while you are tucked into a sleeping bag?  Not a lot of fun!!! hahahahaaa   Put the blankets close by, that way if they want you can reach out and pet them, or just unzip that sleeping bag and let them in, but just remember that you will be squished into the back of the bag if thye decide to sleep with you, but all that body heat may be too much for them.  Nigel won't sleep under the covers, but Sydney did, she snuggled right in and was out like a light.  They will do what is comfortable for them.

Also, if you have a flea/tick problem in that area, be sure and use some protection for your dogs!  I have also had to use bug spray to help get the mosquitos off them from time to time, so be away of the bugs for your dogs.

When you get there in the dark, keep the dogs close to you and don't let them wander around until the morning when you have a chance to check everything out.  There may be snakes, other animals running around and it wouldn't be a good idea to let them get surprised in the dark.

Good luck, and have a ton of fun!!!   I wish I was going, I love to go camping!  Take pics, would like to know what that area is like.
